Clay shoveller's fracture

an oblique/vertical fracture of a spinous process, most commonly at C6T1 levels. The clay shovellers fracture is caused by powerful hyperflexion. The fracture is best shown on the lateral cervical spine radiograph. The anteroposterior view may show a 'double spinous process' caused by displacement of the fractured spinous process. The injury is stable.
