[650] ἐπί, thereupon, perhaps with the idea of suddenness often conveyed by “ἐπιφαίνεσθαι” in Herod. and Attic (see Lex.). Monro (H. G. § 197) takes it in the local sense, the fight was lighted up all over; but this seems less natural.
