Elder Steven E. Snow of presidency of the Seventy loves people. Perhaps it is an ingrained family trait. He explained to a reporter from the Ensign (May 2001, p. 105) "My grandparents owned a furniture store, and as customers would come in, I would watch my grandfather visit with them. He enjoyed it so much that my grandmother would always have to remind him that he was at work." Of his own affection for the saints, he said, "As we prepare for our new assignment, I'm looking forward to meeting new people, particularly those of different backgrounds. I get a lot of joy and happiness from my interest in others."
Elder Snow was born November 23, 1949 to Greg E. and Jean Goates Snow. He was raised in the Church, baptized as a child, and received the Aaronic Priesthood as a youth. As a young man, he served a mission to Germany. He credits his mission for his strong testimony of the Gospel.
Returning home from his mission, young Steven pursued a college education. He majored in accounting at Utah State University where he earned a bachelor's degree. He then enrolled at the law school of Brigham Young University where he took a degree in that field. His academic credentials powered a career in law. He became a deputy county attorney for Washington County, Utah before becoming senior partner in the Snow Nuffer law firm.
Elder Snow was married to Phyllis Squire in June, 1971 in the Saint George Temple. The couple became the parents of four sons, making their home in Washington, Utah. It was there that Elder Snow began to receive calls to sucessively more reponsible positions in the Church. He has served as Sunday School Teacher, Aaronic Priesthood Advisor, Stake High Councilor, Bishop, Stake President, and as President of the California San Fernando Mission. In April 1999 he was ordained a Seventy and called into the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy. He served as an Area Authority Seventy in the Utah South Area.
In April 2001, Elder Snow was enrolled in the ranks of the General Authorities when he was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy.
Elder Snow was yet to receive another calling in the Seventy. On August 1, 2007, he was named to the Presidency thereof. He was sustained October 6, 2007 in the 177th Semi-annual General Conference of the Church and continues to serve at this writing.
