Top 30 Japanese Video Games 03/16/03

Our weekly rundown of what's hot in Japan for the week ending March 16, courtesy of Famitsu magazine.

Here are the top 30 best selling games in Japan for the week ending March 16, courtesy of the editors and marketing research types at Famitsu magazine.

It didn't require the services of Miss Cleo to surmise what would be on top this timeFinal Fantasy X-2, Square's last pre-merger release, destroyed all comers and sold a million and a half copies in its first week. The newest FF is 2003's first million-seller in Japan, and it's the sixth PlayStation 2 title to break the mark in the region. It didn't quite beat the original FFX (that sold 1.75 million copies in its first week), but with numbers like these, who cares?

The only other major releases this week were GBA Zelda and VF4 Evolution for the PS2both putting in fairly reasonable numbers. The last two portable Zelda games (the Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons duo) both sold in the 350,000 range in Japan, with sales spread out across a surprisingly large stretch of timesomething that's rare to see in the Japanese marketplace, where the great majority of sales take place on the first week of release. First-party Nintendo titles are always like that.
