Top 30 Japanese Video Games 02/02/03

Our weekly rundown of what's hot in Japan for the week ending February 2, courtesy of Famitsu magazine.

Here are the top 30 best selling games in Japan for the week ending February 2, courtesy of the editors and marketing research types at Famitsu magazine.

January 30 was a very busy day for the Japan games industryno less than 17 new games, spearheaded by Devil May Cry 2 but also featuring several other very powerful titles, hit stores at the exact same time. Capcom's newest title sold over 309,000 titles, around 75 percent of its initial shipment, in an overall pretty good week for the storeowners.

Operator's Side, the voice-controlled adventure game mentioned in a previous Game of the Week, didn't do terribly either: it sold over 23,000 copies in its first week, selling out in several places. There hasn't been very many voice console games since the infamous Seaman for Dreamcast, but now there's three more coming out in Japan very soon: Dogstation (a dog-own-em-up), Deka Voice (a cop sim), and Shibai Michi (a game that lets you do voice work for fake movies and such). Are we seeing another mini-boom in the making?
