In June we attended the Printer’s Row Literature Festival in Chicago. City blocks were closed off for tents and booths full of all types of literature. We presented a board with a selection of well known book covers and asked visitors of the event if they could choose to ban any of the books on the board, which if any, they would in fact ban. They were allowed to choose any three of the eleven choices

Boehner Responds: "The House Cannot Pass A Bill That Raises Taxes on Job Creators"

Speaker John Boehner said Monday that he agrees with President Barack Obama that the nation's borrowing limit must be raised to avoid a government default but insists that House Republicans won't back any deal with tax increases.

BOEHNER: "I agree with the president that the national debt limit must be raised, and I’m glad that he made the case for it today. But the American people will not accept – and the House cannot pass – a bill that raises taxes on job creators.

“The House can only pass a debt limit bill that includes spending cuts larger than the hike in the debt limit, as well as real restraints on future spending. My colleagues and I believe we should enact a Balanced Budget Amendment to keep the federal government from spending us into this same situation again. I think we also need real reductions in spending right now, and spending caps to ensure that any progress that we make is not undone in the future.

“Listen, I agree with the president we cannot allow our nation to default on our debt. But to prevent a default, a bill must pass the Congress. And a bill that doesn’t meet these tests can’t pass the House of Representatives

There were approximately 2.4 million fewer Americans working in June 2011 than there were when President Barack Obama signed the economic stimulus bill on Feb. 17, 2009, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

According to the BLS, there were approximately 141.68 million people counted as “employed” in America back in February 2009. By June of 2011, that number had fallen to approximately 139.33 million, yielding a net reduction in jobs of approximately 2.4 million.

When the economic stimulus – the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act -- was created, Obama promised that the then-$787-billion spending package would create or save 3.5 million jobs, saying it would preserve the “American dream” for millions of people

Jay-Z: Criticism of Obama "Fair" Given The State of the Economy

Obama loses Jay-z

"It's f----d up"

Jay-Z has long been a fan of Obama but has called criticism of the president "fair" given the state of the economy.

Speaking to a small room of music journalists just hours before the Labor Department released its monthly jobs report, which found national unemployment numbers rising to 9.2 percent in the month of June, Jay-Z said of the criticism, "He's the president, it's fair."

"Numbers don't lie. Unemployment is pretty high. It's f----d up, but he's trying not to be the angry black man," the rapper said at a recent listening event in Manhattan according to GQ.

He made the remarks on Thursday before June's disappointing job numbers were released.

McConnell Raises Concern Over Civilian Terror Trials in Light of Casey Anthony Acquittal

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell pointed to the acquittal of Casey Anthony as an example of why the U.S. civilian court system should not be trusted to try terror suspects

The Florida mother charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in 2008, was found not guilty Tuesday on all charges except lying to investigators. Becoming perhaps the first lawmaker to do so, McConnell drew a lesson Sunday from that case in connection with the debate in Washington over whether to try suspected terrorists in federal courts.

"These are not American citizens. We just found with the Caylee Anthony case how difficult it is to get a conviction in a U.S. court," McConnell told "Fox News Sunday." "I don't think a foreigner is entitled to all the protection in the Bill of Rights. They should not be in U.S. courts and before military commissions.
"

McConnell and other Republicans were outraged this past week after the Obama administration moved to charge a Somali terror suspect in civilian court in New York. Fox News has since learned that the suspect had met recently with American-born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.

McConnell wants him and other terror suspects brought to Guantanamo Bay and tried in U.S. military commissions.

In August 2009, on a visit to Elkhart, Indiana to tout his stimulus plan, Obama sat down for an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, and was conveyed a simple request from Elkhart resident Scott Ferguson: “Explain how raising taxes on anyone during a deep recession is going to help with the economy.”

Obama agreed with Ferguson’s premise – raising taxes in a recession is a bad idea. “First of all, he’s right. Normally, you don’t raise taxes in a recession, which is why we haven’t and why we’ve instead cut taxes. So I guess what I’d say to Scott is – his economics are right. You don’t raise taxes in a recession. We haven’t raised taxes in a recession.”

Todd reminded Obama that he had promised to raise taxes on “some of the wealthiest” Americans
