Classification (Warning: see also the file "Classification of prokaryotes: Introduction").

Lactovum Matthies et al. 2005, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Lactovum miscens Matthies et al. 2005.
Etymology: L. n. lac lactis, milk; L. neut. n. ovum, egg; N.L. neut. n. Lactovum, egg from milk (perhaps because the type strain of the type species is an ovoid bacterium related to the genus Lactococcus).

Lactovum miscens Matthies et al. 2005, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain anNAG3 = ATCC BAA-490 = DSM 14925.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AJ439543.
Etymology: L. part. adj. miscens (from L. v. misceo), mixing, to indicate a mixed fermentative metabolism.
