Game In Namiki a so-called 'shooting mecca' for arcade games, closed on the 25th. This was the location where many of Clover-TAC's highscores were accomplished, and where most of Arcadia's scoring info came from. A large group of people came to celebrate the last day, which you can see to the left. The arcade was in Meidaimae. Thanks to nikaiten for the news.

Taito has announced that they will be unveiling Raiden III for arcades (in video form) a the AM show this coming week. Unfortunately it cannot be confirmed at the moment whether or not the game is being developed by the original group Seibu Kaihatsu, which has basically fallen off the map aside from a few cellphone games. Pochi to Nya, one of the last MVS games (certainly the last 3rd party one), and the final game to be developed by Compile, is being ported to the PS2. The console version will have updated graphics, 11 characters, and some new modes (battle, nonstop, stage, story). The game will be released on october 28th (by Bandai) for 5,040 yen (including tax).

The newest publishing project from Falcom is another reworking of the classic chinese Three Kingdoms tale. Gensosangokushi was developed by the Taiwanese developer Userjoy Technology, and takes sort of a fantasy RPG route. The game will be released for PCs on September 29th for 7,960 yen (DVD or 3 CDs).

Cave has renewed their website, with mixed results. It's tougher to get to the shooting game portions of the site, but much easier to get to the cellphone sections. Konami has begun location testing for the latest in their Bishi Bashi Panic series. Similar to Wario Ware, but much more arcade-based, and with longer rounds. The Read_Me 2004 festival in Århus, Denmark is looking very interesting. It takes place from the 23rd to the 27th, in two parts. Part one is the Software Art and Cultures Conference hosted by the University of Århus, and the second part is the Runme Dorkbot City Camp (aka 'people doing strange things with software') hosted by the Jutland Academy of Fine Arts. Lots of stuff going on at Play Asia since we last visited - KOF Maximum Impact is up for preorder, and the Korean limited version with a 60 page booklet and bonus DVD is only $50. The soundtrack is also out. Flight Plan's Summon Night Craft Sword Tale 2 has been released for GBA, the LDT korean version of Katamari Damashii is out as well, and comes with a free umbrella. Only $45 for that. Last but not least, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the saturn, two soundtrack compilations are being released.

edit: big error on katamari damashii - it's the first one, not the sequel. whoops!

According to an japanese bbs poster who claims to have an early edition of the new famitsu, Siren 2 will not be a direct sequel to the first, will have shadow enemies (ala ICO), and you will be able to 'sight jack' animals as well as people. In other rumors, FF12 may come in january, on 2 DVDs, DQ8 would be ready before the end of the year (perhaps the end of november?), and Killer 7 would be released the 7th of december. There's a new game out from Mad Teatime, creators of Insane Night, the dojin action game for GP32 - this one's called Stairway2Heaven. Kind of strikes one as a spirutual sequel to Dyhard Infinity. Be sure to download the main zip and the patch (which has the 1.02 by it).

In other news, the release of the official european title Blue Angelo has been delayed until december, due to complications on (surprise) the Gamepark side.


News: Atelier Iris ~Eternal Mana~

Nippon Ichi Software America has just announced that they've acquired the license (from Gust) for Atelier Iris ~Eternal Mana~ to be localized and brought to the US. This is the sixth installment in the Atelier RPG series, and features a gorgeous amalgam of 2D and 3D graphics. The release is not set in stone yet, as it's still subject to SCEA approval. But we're hoping that we can bump this one over the top, just like we did with Disgaea. This would be the first in the Atelier series ever to come to the states.

In other NISA news, check their front page, and you'll see that if you preorder Phantom Brave, you'll get a free soundtrack CD.

The minibosses are having a concert with Jimmy Eat World in los angeles at the Troubadour on thursday the 26th. Tickets go on sale the 20th at midnight, only at Ticketmaster, so beware of markup. Only 250 seats available, $20 each. But they want to make sure they get some minibosses fans in there, so they're not all alone. To allay some of the costs, The 'bosses have promised that if you either print out their global mail they sent (you can mail them to ask for it) or bring in this article, they'll send you their next two CDs for free when they're released. That's a deal! You've got to show it to one of the minibosses though, so keep that in mind.

News: AP-3: Aruze's linux board

Aruze has just announced a new board called the AP-3. It's another PC-child, much like Taito's Type-X windows XP based board. But this one runs on linux. According to the press release, Aruze has met the terms of the General Public License (GPL) and LGPL, so all is legal here. Two versions of the board are planned: Puratto-Net, for online networking, and Street Stream, a general game configuration. 20 titles are planned in the next financial term, the first of which is part of the 'Millenary' series, with which everyone I polled was unfamiliar.

Sega has opened booths for people to try out Sakura Taisen V episode 0 - right during comic market, the gigantic doujin convention (fan games, manga, anime etc). As a result, there are no reports on the game, as nobody is playing it. It's like Sega wants to fail. Nippon Ichi has a new PS2 publishing project in the works - Eien no Aselia - The Spirit of Eternity Sword, an AVG/SRPG with action-based battles.
