Question: Now that the writers have returned to work on Castle, do you have any scoop? Any further tidbits on the new female captain you mentioned last week? —Cheryl
According to some just-released character intel, the new boss lady cut her teeth in Internal Affairs and views the captain’s chair as nothing more than a stepping-stone to a bigger, more prominent job. She also has a rep for being a bit of a hard-ass to her co-workers, but she also has a fun and flirtatious side. Got casting tips? Hit the comments!

Question: Thanks for all the True Blood scoop in AA last week — but what about Alcide? Got anything on my favorite werebeast? —Allison
He’s doesn’t actually show up until Episode 3 (airing July 10), when Sookie drops by his new suburban crib to ask a favor of him. She quickly discovers that his change of address is but one of two major surprises the big lug has in store for her.

Question: Any chance John Lithgow will appear next season on How I Met Your Mother? —Carter
“We absolutely want to see John Lithgow again,” says exec producer Craig Thomas. “We’re hoping to bring [him] back. We’re also hoping to see Frances Conroy as Barney’s mom. I know John Lithgow specifically would love to work with her.”

Question: Do you know if there are any plans for Supernatural to do another meta-ish episode next season? Or was last season’s “The French Mistake” the last one? —Annie
Sounds like the fourth wall will come crumbling down yet again. “We have not put the kibosh on meta,” insists exec producer Sera Gamble. “It’s completely about somebody pitching a story that would work for us.” Gamble acknowledges that “The French Mistake” — in which Sam and Dean were transported to an alt-reality where they were “Jared Padalecki” and “Jensen Ackles,” the stars of a TV series called Supernatural — will be tough to top. “We set a pretty high bar,” she concedes. “But hey, I thought we were never going to be able to do meta again long before ‘The French Mistake.’ And then that got pitched, and we had to do it, of course. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point in Season 7 or beyond, someone pitches something that enables us to do a fun episode like that again.”

Question: This is my first time ever asking for a spoiler here, but with Rookie Blue‘s second season starting soon, I would love some info on it — particularly about Sam and Andy. Got anything good that isn’t already on the web? —Gwen
Fingers crossed this isn’t already on the web: Sam gets an offer to go back to his guns-and-gangs gig, but he’s a little reluctant to leave. Hmm, wonder why?

Question: What’s the latest on Jessalyn Gilsig’s status with Glee? —Rion
She won’t be returning next season as a series regular, but don’t be surprised if Terri pops in from time to time to wreak her own special brand of havoc.

Question: I’m can’t tell you how happy I am that The Killing has been renewed, but I need to know which castmembers are returning — and I need to know now. —Paige
If I’m hearing you correctly, you want to know which castmembers are returning for Season 2 of The Killing. And you’d prefer to receive that information sooner rather than later. Did I miss anything? OK, here’s what I can tell you: Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will definitely be back as partners in crimesolving Linden and Holder, respectively. Everyone else is TBD. THIS JUST IN: I can now confirm that Jamie Anne Allman — a.k.a. Mitch’s part-time hooker sis, Terry — will also be returning full-time, which pretty much confirms the show will remain in Seattle and maintain some sort of tie with the Larsen clan. Veddy interesting.

Question: I love TVLine! Can I get some White Collar scoop, please? —George
Next week’s episode sends “Diana undercover as an assistant to a journalist from hell,” reveals series creator Jeff Eastin. “It’s our version of The Devil Wears Prada. [It] gives [Marsha Thomason] a chance to shine a little bit.” And use her real cockney accent!

Question: I’d like some White Collar scoop, please. Lately all spoilers were of the Neal/Sara variety, and I’m so tired of it. I watch for bromance, not romance. So anything at all interesting about Neal and Peter, pretty please? Their partnership should remain the heart of the show! —Lyn
If I’m hearing you correctly, you want some scoop on Peter’s wife Elizabeth, played by Tiffani Thiessen. Did I miss anything? OK, here’s what I, or rather Mr. Eastin, can tell you: “We have a very specific Elizabeth episode [coming up]. It’s called ‘Rear Window.’ Elizabeth’s at home, and Peter’s left a police scanner there. She happens to pick up what she believes is a report of somebody about to commit a robbery very close to their house. It actually ends up being her and Mozzie that start their own investigation to see if they can figure out what’s going on. That ends up sucking Peter and Neal into it.”

Question: Is there any news about Dexter Season 6? —John
Remember me telling you a few weeks back that the show was casting the recurring role of an elementary school teacher? Well, I’m fairly certain there’s a connection between that and this.

Question: Dexter scoop, por favor? —Fletch
CS Lee (Masuka) hinted to TVLine at Monday’s 2nd Annual SAG Foundation Golf Classic that Edward James Olmos’ character, a professor of religious studies, just might turn out to be one of this season’s baddies, if not the baddie. “It seems to be that way,” he teased. “The guy is such a wonderful actor and such a presence that you would probably shoot yourself in the foot if you didn’t do that. He’s going to be great.” As for his own subplot, Lee said, “I have a few ‘lab helpers’ coming in this year. They’re either going to help me or they’re going to get me in trouble. We’ll see what happens.”

Question: Do you think Fox will renew Breaking In? They still haven’t made a final decision as far as I know. —Angela
Um, this is awkward. I’m sorry you had to find out this way but I’m pretty sure the show is not coming back. Whose job was it to keep Angela posted about this?! Don’t look at me. I have enough on my plate.

Question: Drop Dead Diva is coming back in less than a week and I am psyched! I read a teaser that a character will “go away forever, and another’s life will be dramatically changed.” Any chance you could dig up some scoop about that? —Samantha
It’s true. “After Episode 4, one of our characters will be gone forever,” confirms exec producer Josh Berman. “I don’t want to give away too much, but I can definitely say that one of our characters is going away in an unexpected way.”

Question: You’ve been awfully quiet about Torchwood: Miracle Day after announcing that you received the first three episodes. What say you, oh wise one? —Claire
I say with a heavy heart that I liked it, but I didn’t love it. The show has always zigged and zagged between multiple personalities — and unapologetically so. It’s part soap opera, part sci-fi thriller, part cheesy B-movie, part a few other things, just for fun. And that schizophrenia has always been a part of its charm. But in the U.S.-set Miracle Day, the bouncing between tones seems more pronounced, making it hard to tell whether we’re supposed to be laughing with the show or at it. Perhaps even more upsetting (to me, anyway) is that the premise sounded so provocative — everyone on Earth stops dying. Yet the execution over the first few episodes was decidedly (gasp) boring. (Too much time is focused on the Americans learning what and who Torchwood is. And the less said about the dull, duller, dullest Bill Pullman subplot, the better.) But like I said, I didn’t hate it. In fact, with Jack and Gwen still their awesome selves, I did like it, at least. On top of that, the Jane Espenson-penned Episode 3 — featuring two TV-MA-rated sex scenes (one straight, one gay) — was a marked improvement over the first two, so, assuming the momentum continues, a “miracle” may yet occur.

Question: I’m an AA virgin. This is my first time asking a question, so be gentle. Any word on who the boss will be when The Office returns in the fall? —Adam
All I know is who it probably won’t be: Catherine Tate. At least that’s what I’m hearing. If true, it’s a total bummer.

Question: I just had a Shameless marathon and I am in love with this show. Could you please try to get some Season 2 scoop? Please tell me Steve will come back to Fiona! —Rae Lynn
Steve will sorta come back to Fiona, only his name won’t be Steve. And he won’t be played by Justin Chatwin. Allow me to explain: Producers are adding the new recurring role of Mark, a 27-year-old hottie who possesses an over-developed sense of self worth that is very reminiscent of Fiona’s Season 1 beau. Got casting tips? Hit the comments!

Question: Thanks for the heads-up that Brittany Snow and Aml Ameen are not returning to Harry’s Law. I was wondering if Christopher McDonald will be back as Tommy Thompson? I loved his character and the way he played off Kathy Bates. —Victoria
Yes, he will be back — and he’ll be joined by two newbies filling the Jenna/Malcolm void. “Oliver Pritchard” is a hot-shot, big-gun attorney who, in spite of his track record and mischievous charms, needs Harry’s help on a whopper of a murder case. And Cassie Reynolds is the firm’s new associate, pretty and also pretty darn eager to impress the boss.

Should Tom Welling Replace Lisa Edelstein on House?

Question: Do you do Ask Ausiello all summer or do you take a hiatus? Just curious. —Sara
No hiatus for AA, but perhaps a week off here and there to give me time to work up my annual campaign for Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity. As a matter of fact, this year’s contest is just getting underway at (hint, hint). Although in the past, the closest I’ve come to winning was being a runner-up to Prince, I’m confident that in 2011, especially with the competition’s new emphasis on social media (starting with twitter; hashtag #sexyvegceleb), I’ve got a real shot at it. I mean, what other nominee has Ausholes, right? Not Russell Brand, not Kristen Wiig, not Olivia Wilde. So it would really be embarrassing for me you if I didn’t finally come out on top.

Question: Do you have any Weeds scoop? —John
You already know that Season 7 (debuting June 27) picks up three years after the events of Season 6. What you don’t know is what Doug has been up to during those lost three years, other than he was in Copenhagen. And that’s where the scoop comes in. “Doug got a job working as an accountant for IKEA — if that is in Denmark,” reveals his portrayer, Kevin Nealon. “Now he’s back stateside again.”

Question: Is Trevor Donovan the only cast member being cut from 90210? —Jamie
As of this writing, yes, it’s just him. However, you’d think the show was undergoing a more massive overhaul based on the slew of new recurring characters being introduced in the fall. Among them:

| Austin: A charming and hunky cowboy Ă  la Brad Pitt in Thelma & Louise. He’s the son of a country music superstar. As such, he’s wealthy, but not in an obnoxious way.

| Holly: Naomi’s super-wealthy, sorority-obsessed archrival at California U.

| Jasmeen: Navid’s 18-year-old troublemaking, self-absorbed younger sister.

| Gabe: The anti-Liam in that he’s friendly, outgoing and extremely communicative. An upperclassman at CU, Gabe forges an instant connection with Annie — but he may have an ulterior motive.

| Jane: A mysterious new love interest for Liam who became a widow at a young age. Think Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca.

Question: The wife and I are fans of House and Game of Thrones and noticed the acting style, smiles and air about Peter Dinklage and Hugh Laurie are very similar. We thought it would be great pairing of actors if they could ever work together. Have you or anyone else in the entertainment circles noticed this as well? —Brian
I totally noticed it while watching Sunday’s shocking GoT! They’re mannerisms and acting style are very similar, they totally need to do something together. I’ll plant the bug in Hugh’s ear next time we meet for tea at the Plaza.

That’s a wrap! Please send questions, comments, and anonymous tips to Also, you can keep track of my scoops on Twitter via @MichaelAusiello. Thanks for playing! (Additional reporting by Vlada Gelman and Andy Patrick)

  • A female captain on Castle? It’s someone who would definitely need chemistry with Castle but who could also not seem like a total bitch with Beckett. Maybe Elizabeth Mitchell or Jennifer Beals? Although it might be nice to have an unknown actress in the role.

    • Morena Baccarin all the way! We all know she’s got excellent chemistry with Nathan and can play a strong, intelligent sexy woman. Crossing my fingers that Nathan helps that idea become reality like he similarly recruited Dana Delany.

        • Just to pick a nit here..she wouldn’t be Castle’s boss, she’d be Beckett’s boss. Let’s just hope they choose someone who can stand up to the chemistry between Rick and Kate. Kim Raver might be a good candidate too.

Comment by Nonnaru – June 14, 2011 08:37 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Morena Baccarin would be FANTASTIC. Definitely a great idea.

        • My first thought: Morena Baccarin ftw, it’d be the epitome of awesome.
My second thought: Actually it would probably be a terrible idea, I’d quickly start shipping Castle with her (my deep-rooted love of Mal/Inara will probably trump my fledgling affection for Caskett).

      • Morena is already committed to and filming another show.

      • She has a new show already. Baccarin and Mitchell are both great ideas, as is the Bridget Fonda one. He also had great chemistry with Evangaline Lilly on his LOST episode, so she might make for a good fit too.

Comment by Jill – June 14, 2011 05:10 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I agree on Allison Janney.
She’s absolutely amazing and has what it got to be on a set as the Castle set. As well as how to play someone of that description (from watching her on The West Wing only and a couple of movies incl Juno).

  • I cast Elizabeth Mitchell as the new “Castle” captain in my head as soon as it was announced they were considering a woman. Lovely to see other people have the same thought!

Excited about the “White Collar” news. Almost takes the sting out of no Catherine Tate on “The Office.”

  • I feel like I’m the only one who didn’t like The French Mistake and really wish they would stop with the metaish episodes.

Comment by Elle – June 14, 2011 05:14 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I don’t want any more meta either. I did enjoy The French Mistake, but it was probably because I was sure it was gonna suck so I was pleasently surprise. It’s not one of my favorites episodes or anything but I like it just fine.
I think The French Mistake had enough meta to last for a life time so they should stop with that already. It was fun yeah, but you gotta know when to end it, and having an episode about basically doing an episode of your show is as far as you can go, imo.

Comment by MJ – June 14, 2011 06:42 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • No you’re not. It was like bad fanfic. I agree with you that they should tone done the meta stuff. Last year was really disappointing after the previous few.

Comment by Doug – June 14, 2011 09:27 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Yeah, I’m really not interested in another French Mistake. They need to concentrate on fixing the show proper. I liked Monster at the End of the Book because it moved the story along as well but otherwise metas tend to be self-indulgent, self-congratulatory and what’s that word . . . redundant.

Just give me a good story where all the characters matter and relationships are about people having each other’s back instead of stabbing them.

Comment by Taylor – June 14, 2011 05:14 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • A female captain on Castle is an all around BAD idea. And it’s so clichĂ©. Beckett has been seen as the unofficial ‘in-charge’ female at the precinct despite having a boss. This is going to ruin that, I fear.

Comment by Polly – June 14, 2011 05:14 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • THIS. definitely a horrible idea and VERY cliche. this deserves a Beckett eye roll.

Comment by Jacqueline – June 14, 2011 06:03 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I totally agree about the “bad idea” and it being “cliche”. If I see one more show replace a male boss, who has been perceived as kind, with a woman boss, who the network decides must be a b*tch, I will scream!

  • Now that Connor Paolo is starring in Revenge and Trevor Donavan’s not a series-regular, The CW is lacking in the gay-character department. I have the feeling there’ll be a gay female in Secret Circle (I haven’t read the books, but for some reason it seems likely), but I have slim hopes for Ringer or Hart of Dixie.

  • Awwwww….I’m kinda bummed about what you thought about Torchwood: Miracle Day. I guess after the amazing “Torchwood: Children of Earth” series, my expectations are quite high. Still, it is a 10 part story. The first few were bound to be slow…I guess. I have faith in RTD!! Thanks so much for the review!! I’m still super excited!! Torchwood is BACK!

She was GREAT on NCIS and I miss her badassness on my TV!! And it appears Dick Wolf is going to have rotating ADAs again next season so the next best thing would be to have her on Castle!!

  • I say that Stephanie March (known for her role as ADA Alexandra Cabot on “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”) should be the new captain. I think she’d be perfect for the job – she can be a hard-ass, but also extraordinary. She’d be perfect for Captain.

  • Female captain on Castle — what, are the writers trying to copy what was done on The Mentalist last season with the Grace Hightower character being brought in? I hated every minute of the “conflict” between the new female boss and Det Lisbon on The Mentalist — don’t make the same mistake on Castle! If Castle must have a female Captain, I vote for Alison Janney. Although I adore Elizabeth Mitchell, I think it needs to be someone older and I don’t want a sexual undercurrent going with Castle and the new boss. Are you listening Castle writers??

Comment by Mary Williamson – June 14, 2011 06:10 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • They did the same thing on Bones. Got rid of the guy (whose name escapes me at the moment) and brought in Cam. Please, Andrew, I’m begging you. Forget this idea about casting a female Captain and hire another Montgomery. The last thing I want to see is some hot chick who takes away Castle’s attention from Beckett.

Comment by Polly – June 14, 2011 07:05 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Although… in the case of Bones, Cam ended up being the funniest character, and all the other ones have turned into sappy buckets of boring. Blech.

  • Oh no, Steve/Jimmy won’t be returning to Shameless? Hey producers, big mistake. Fiona and Steve/jimmy had so much natural chemistry and their storyline deserves tying up. I think the way Steve/jimmy was run out of town was typical TV haxkneyed

    • <> Meant to write “hackneyed way of ending a storyline.”

And I what I meant to say is that having Tony push Steve/Jimmy out of town that way was very odd to me. Fiona had already warned Steve/Jimmy that Tony might know about him stealing cars, so it’s really implausible that Steve/Jimmy wouldn’t tell Fiona that it was Tony (on some misguided jealousy trip) who was forcing him to leave. Also Tony is at Lip & Ian’s arrest and they both saw him, so they know that Tony thought it was Steve/Jimmy driving the stolen Porsche. And what about Debbie? She spilled the beans to Steve/Jimmy’s mom. In the finale none of this comes out. Steve/Jimmy’s storyline is so totally full of loose ends that it’s frustrating, and if it isn’t re-visited in season 2 it will feel very un-fulfilling, much in the way that Weeds became (which is why I stopped watching that show long ago). I think in season 2 Steve/Jimmy should be brought back, his parents know that he isn’t the perfect son, and he should be trying to rehabilitate himself in someway. And I think the producers are mistaken if they think Fiona will have mad hot chemistry with any new good looking co-star they bring on (another Weeds symptom, I think). What Fiona and Steve/Jimmy had is really unique for a TV show, I don’t see it often, mostly these type of unions strike me as forced.

Oh well, I guess it’s not the first time producers of a show screw things up.

    • the show is a remake of a BBC show. The Steve character wasn’t around very long in the UK version either. Google it if you want spoilers.

      • You’re right (obviously), but there also isn’t a need to slavishly follow everything that happened on the original series either. They chemistry between Chatwin and Rossum was outstanding, but the chemistry between Chatwin and the rest of the cast was great too. I hope he’s around at least for a little bit.

  • Elizabeth Mitchell as new captain on Castle! Should we make a petition?

  • I am sad that Miracle Day isn’t going to be Totally Awesome, and I think I just cried a little at losing the chance to see more Catherine Tate on American tv.

At least there’s no way Doctor Who won’t disappoint in the fall

  • YES cosigning on the thought of Peter Dinklage and Hugh Laurie working together, that would be fantastic! Michael, do tell that to Mr. Laurie, and ask him if he watches GoT. :)

  • I second the notion that Elizabeth Mitchell should be the new female captain. She would be great, although I sort of still think she needs her own show where she can win all the awards in the world. And I think (as much as I hate it and think it is an overly used storyline in TV) that the whole point for them choosing a female captain is to throw another wrench into the Castle and Beckett relationship. But still, EM would be great!

  • I guess this just proves that my definition of redundant and Sera’s definition of redundant don’t match.

How is doing another meta episode fresh and new?

  • Hmm…this new guy character for Fiona in Shameless has me buzzing with casting choices. One is Tom Welling because I’m starting to miss seeing him on my tv and he could probably still pass for 27 another choice is…well it has to be someone that has chemistry with Emmy Rossum and he has to be hot

  • Ohhh, I’d love to see Elizabeth Mitchell (like so many others) as the new Captain on Castle! Though I think Christina Cox or Dina Meyer would be amazing cast in that role, too.

  • They could always bring a movie person down for the role. It just depends. Personally I think that its going to be someone we all haven’t even thought of.

  • I love Supernatural and will be loyal to it until the day I die. And I don’t normally complain (like the rest of the SPN “fans”) but I have to say, I would be PERFECTLY HAPPY with them abandoning the meta episodes and never looking back. “The French Mistake” was embarrassing and terrible and they should not be patting themselves on the back for it. I have never said that about another episode of that show (okay, maybe the Paris Hilton one) so clearly, this is very heartfelt.

The news about Edward James Olmos on Dexter is basically TVgasmic. I can’t image anything more delicious than him playing the big bad, and I’ve missed the CRAP out of him since BSG ended. Will be THRILLED to have him back on my TV!

  • Can’t wait for Supernatural’s Season 7. Finally after beating the Angel mythology to death and then some our show seems to be finally getting back on track. Too bad Kripke didn’t do this Cass seeking redemption storyline in Season 5 after Cass intentionally tried to bring on the Apocalypse by using lyign and manipulating both brothers including how he let Sam out of the panic room while lying Dean inot the Green room when Dean trusted him to keep Sam out of this. Something Dean should have found out about and would never have forgiven him for but Cass could have worked hard to get back in the brothers good graces and either went out a hero in Season 5 or died trying. Not the joke he became by trying to create ridiculous reasons like Apoclaypse 2.0 to keep him on screen.

  • I think Carrie Fisher would be a great person to cast for the new Captain on Castle. I’ve seen her in other projects, and I feel that she could really work. Even though she was only seen once in Smallville, I think she did a great job as Editor-in-Chief. So I look at that as the reason she could work. Though the people who work on Castle do a great job with casting, I’m sure they will find a great person to be the new Captain.
