Zelda helps 3DS back on top in Japan

Nintendo handheld tops hardware sales for the first time in two months, though Ocarina misses out on number one.

Nintendo's 3DS was the best-selling hardware in Japan last week, as the release of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D saw the glasses-free 3D handheld outsell PSP for the first time in more than two months.

3DS sold 40,649 units over the course of the week, a comfortable lead over PSP's 31,741 sales, though PSP has been the best-selling hardware in Japan for some time: the last time 3DS topped the hardware chart was the week ending April 17.

There's some confusion over the number one in the software charts: Media Create has Zelda entering the chart at number two, while Enterbrain has it at number one. For the sake of consistency we'll stick with our usual source, Media Create, passed on as always by Andriasang.

That chart puts Level 5's PSP title Little Battle Experience, with 166,187 units sold, at number one, with Ocarina just behind with 164,110 sales. Last week's number one, Sega's zombie spin-off Yakuza Of The End, slips to third.

The week's only other new entries are two games in 5pb's Steins Gate series, both for Xbox 360, that occupy fourth and fifth spot in the software chart.

01.   Little Battle Experience (Level 5)
02.   The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D (Nintendo)
03.   Yakuza Of The End (Sega)
04.   Steins Gate Hiyoku Renri No Darling (5pb)
05.   Steins Gate Double Pack (5pb)
06.   Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom)
07.   Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 Professional (Square Enix)
08.   Battle & Get! Pokémon Typing DS (Nintendo)
09.   Wii Party (Nintendo)
10.   One Piece Unlimited Cruise Special (Namco Bandai)
