For a guy that uses such a small amount of dialogue in his comic books Sam Kieth has a lot to say. At times when I was writing this up it felt like a stream of consciousness, but that reminded me of Kieth's most famous work, The Maxx.
Kieth rose to prominence with his Marvel Comics collaborating with writer Peter David on The Incredible Hulk and Wolverine. But it wasn't until he moved to Image Comics and created The Maxx and later The Maxx cartoon on MTV that his cult began. Kieth used that Hollywood...

You aren't referring to Mr. Gone by chance are you? He's my smiley face when chatting:

That's the most he ever smiles.
You knew I would chime in somewhere on this thread being as I changed my name 10 years ago just to emulate one of his comics.
call me sentimental, but i've been thinking about my days of comic book collecting and the art that came into my mind was sam kieth's.
on both sandman and the Maxx...
it is his art that got me into painting and into what i do today...
that unconvential art that declared we don't have to make everything look the same, just because it is cool or it sells...
thank you, for this interview has reafirmed that belief
The "url" for Alt.Sex.Stories.Repository is sort of a cross between the alt.sex.stories.* newsgroups and the asstr.org website, great source of stories.
That's awesome! I love the Maxx. I'm glad this interview came along, because up until now I didn't really know what else the Maxx creator had done. Comic store, here I come.

I've always been a fan of Sam Kieth. I can't tell you how much I couldn't wait for the next Maxx to come out, just to see what he wrote in the legal disclaimers at the bottom of the inside cover.
I'm not a Goth, or Emo or Punk...but I was definately an outsider, and I think that's really Sam's fan-base. Those of us who were/are different and rejected by the mainstream.
Its almost 2010 and I'm reading this thread agian. I LOVE Sam's work. I was working in a comic shop when The Maxx came out. I thought it was great then and I still do. I have the Sandman stuff among others. Two of my favorite books that I own are a Gold and a Purple edition of The Maxx # 1. Sorry for collector geek comment. I had to brag a bit. I also love just about anything Fantagraphics puts out. Sam is neato!
