Nugent-Hopkins goes first, Jets take Scheifele in NHL Draft
The Edmonton Oilers selected Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Red Deer Rebels with the first overall pick in the NHL Draft on Friday. Kitchener's Gabriel Landeskog and Saint John's Jonathan Huberdeau rounded out the top three while the brand new Winnipeg Jets chose Mark Scheifele seventh. A New Day
The rebuilding is on for the Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers and it showed again on the second day of the NHL draft. The Senators acquired talented but underperforming winger Nikita Filatov from the Columbus Blue Jackets while the Oilers kicked off the second day by picking defenceman David Musil. Full Story.
Getting Defensive
The Montreal Canadiens had to wait a while to get into the action on Day 2 of the NHL draft, but once they got going the focus stayed on the blue-line. After taking Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman Nathan Beaulieu with the 17th pick in the first round on Friday, the Habs waited until early in the fourth round to make their next selection on Saturday.
