Victors Club: Why Give to Michigan Athletics?

The Maize and Blue represents an athletic tradition unlike any other. The names of our coaches and student-athletes echo not only within Michigan Stadium, but throughout all of collegiate sports. Michigan's history includes watershed times when the athletic program undertook significant changes to preserve our winning tradition and to ensure that the next generation of athletic programs would be as competitive as the last.

The University's varsity teams create a sense of pride for its faculty/staff, alumni, students, and friends. A successful athletics program strengthens our tradition and deepens this pride, serving as a rallying point for the entire community, and enhancing awareness of the University, which can help to attract the "Leaders and Best" to our campus.

The University of Michigan Athletic Department is 100% financially self-sustaining and receives no direct support from the University's General Fund or taxpayer dollars from the state. The department's reliance on private support increases each year with the cost of tuition and the need to improve and preserve aging facilities.

Since 1969, the Victors Club has been the framework for supporting the efforts of Michigan student-athletes. The Victors Club, as the principal fundraising arm of Michigan Athletics, provides a way for individuals to help these talented young people receive a quality education from the University while ensuring its tradition of academic and athletic excellence continues.

The Victors Club is dedicated to the on-going improvement and development of the Michigan Athletics Program. Its members are friends, alumni, and advocates of the University who recognize the value of the intercollegiate athletic experience and are essential to the success of our student-athletes.

At Michigan, our goal is simple: to be the best we can be in athletics, academics, and citizenship. Specifically, we pledge:

  • To maintain as our first priority the academic and athletic support of each of our 700+ student-athletes,
  • To provide the highest quality opportunities for our 25 men's and women's sports, including the maximum number of NCAA scholarships allowed for each sport,
  • To pursue, hire, and train the very best coaches and administrative staff,
  • To compete at the highest level with this country's best athletic programs, and
  • To preserve Michigan's proud history by maintaining and improving our athletic facilities, adding new equipment and implementing effective technologies that enhance our student-athletes' development in the classroom and on the field.
