The X100 is a serious piece of equipment, packing an APS-C CMOS sensor (that's the same type of sensor used in consumer dSLRs) into a classic rangefinder-type body. It's also a fixed-lens model, which is unique for a camera with such a huge sensor, and that lens is a bright f2.0 fixed at 23mm. Then there's the "hybrid" viewfinder, which combines optical and electronic capabilities. Intriguing. We honestly haven't seen anything quite like this, and it's sure to attract the attention of enthusiasts and serious shooters. (Check out the video demo Fujifilm gave us at CES 2011.) It's been in incredibly high demand since its release, and due to the unfortunate disaster in Japan, production is slow. But reviews have been excellent so far. What surprised us in particular was the consensus among most review sites that there's basically no visible noise anywhere in the sensitivity range. Incredible. While it's undoubtably an awesome piece of machinery, it caters to a small niche: photo fanatics who are willing to spend $1200 on a fixed focal-length shooter.
