POLL: Is Obama's plan for troop withdrawal the right idea?

President Obama announced on Wednesday a plan to remove 10,000 troops from Afghanistan this year, and another 23,000 in the first half of 2012. Reaction has been mixed to his proposal. What do you think?

  • It's a good plan. It's time to get these troops home, but it needs to be a gradual withdrawal.
  • It's a bad plan. We should get them all home by the fall. Why do we need to keep them there now that Osama bin Laden is dead?
  • It's a terrible plan. We shouldn't be withdrawing them at all. Does anyone truly believe that the Middle East has stabilized?
  • We'll see. Let's get the first wave home and see how things go. Then we can make a decision about the rest.
  • Whatever Obama says, I disagree with it. SImple as that.

POLL: Are the new cigarette warning labels too graphic?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has unveiled a new series of warning labels to be placed on cigarette packages. The labels feature graphic images that warn of the health risks of tobacco and second-hand smoke - images of cancer-ravaged mouths, diseased lungs, bodies being autopsied, etc. Do you think these new labels are going too far?

  • The new labels are fine. The graphic images reflect reality, and people should be warned.
  • The new labels go too far. Warning us is one thing; disgusting us is another.
  • The warnings should be even more graphic. They need to scare the holy heck out of kids.
  • There shouldn't be any warning labels. People know the risks. If they want to smoke, the FDA should get off their backs.

POLL: Should Wal-Mart be held responsible for allegations of sexual discrimination?

The Supreme Court has ruled that Wal-Mart will not be subject to a class action lawsuit filed by more than a million women who accused the chain of discriminating against women in regards to salary and promotions. The suit would have been the largest class action suit in U.S. history, but the Supreme Court rule that the women could not file the suit together to seek back pay and other compensation. What do you think?

  • I think the women should be allowed to bring the lawsuit. Let the court system decide if the evidence is convincing.
  • The Supreme Court was right. The standards for a class action suit are very rigid, and the case has to adhere to them.
  • I don't think the women have a case. They are making charges against a rich company in order to score a big payday.
  • No clue. I don't know enough about the details of the case, and I don't know enough about how civil suits work.
  • I don't care. I shop at Wal-Mart.

POLL: Is this the end of Anthony Weiner's political career?

Anthony Weiner, a Democratic Congressman from New York who hoped to one day be mayor of New York City, has finally given up on his effort to hold onto his elected office in the wake of a lurid scandal involving inappropriate photos that he sent to various women through social media. Do you think his political career is officially over?

  • Stick a fork in that Weiner. He's done.
  • No, he'll be back. He's only 46, and voters like what he's done in Congress. They'll get over this scandal and move on.
  • He's done, but only because he will move on to a media career somewhere in between George Stephanopoulos and Howard Stern.
  • Gee, I don't know. Can a politician ever get elected again after a messy scandal? Let me go ask Marion Barry ...

POLL: Downtown Newport News construction: What should be done about the homeless shelter?

The $70 million Apprentice School project is designed to revitalize Downtown Newport News, but it could bring collateral damage - including the demolition of a building that has become a very successful shelter for the homeless. If the building is demolished,

What, if anything, can be done to replace this shelter?

  • Nothing can be done. Any new construction causes problems for existing structures. It's up to the people who run the shelter to find a new location.
  • Provisions should be made. If they're spending $70 million, why not make it $71 million and include a new building nearby for a brand new shelter?
  • There are plenty of churches in that area. A few of them need to come together and fill the void left by the demoltion of this shelter.
