On September 25 - 27, 2011, the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), the largest association of electronic journalists, joins forces with the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) creating Excellence in Journalism 2011. Our national conference in New Orleans will be more than a partnership: It will be a gathering of professional journalists with shared interest, and we want you to be part of it.

Nominations open for SPJ board seats

SPJ is seeking qualified individuals to serve as officers and directors for 2011-12.

The board of directors provides vision, direction and leadership to SPJ, the nation's largest journalism organization. Voting chapter delegates will elect members of the national board of directors during the Excellence in Journalism 2011 conference, Sept. 25-27 in New Orleans.

SPJ’s Summer Continuing
Education Series

The journalism industry is constantly changing and journalists need to learn new skills to remain relevant in the field. This summer, the national office of SPJ will offer a series of workshops aimed at helping journalists improve their social media reporting skills. In total, three sessions will be held and each will build on the previous sessions.

— Tuesday, June 28: Writing the Works Online
— Tuesday, July 12: Connect & Communicate

Announcing the winners of the 2010 Sigma Delta Chi Awards

The Society of Professional Journalists is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 Sigma Delta Chi Awards for excellence in journalism. Judges chose the winners from over 1,400 entries in categories covering print, radio, television and online. The awards recognize outstanding work published or broadcast in 2010.

Dating back to 1932, the awards originally honored six individuals for contributions to journalism. The current program began in 1939, when the Society granted the first Distinguished Service Awards. The honors later became the Sigma Delta Chi Awards.

The awards banquet will take place Sept. 24 in New Orleans.

Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to a well- informed citizenry; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.

The Society of Professional Journalists is pleased to announce the national winners of the 2010 Mark of Excellence Awards, recognizing collegiate work published or broadcasted during 2010. This year, student journalists submitted almost 4,000 entries.

The Mark of Excellence Awards honor the best in student journalism. The awards offer categories for print, radio, television, and online collegiate journalism.
