Saintry, near Corbeil, is about twenty miles from Paris. While Corot was attending a family celebration there in May 1873 he painted a view which he then used as a reference for this 'souvenir' which he painted a year later. Corot's 'souvenirs' were reminiscences of particular places, sometimes based on sketches made on the spot, as in this example, or compositions invented in the studio.
