Environment Canada says the worst is over, after a tornado touched down south of Niverville at around 5:00 p.m. CST Saturday.
It stayed on the ground for eight minutes, although it didn't cause much in the way of property damage. The tornado stayed inside a field close to Hwy 59 and Hwy 311.
Environment Canada says the risk of another tornado developing with this system has ended.
The tornado formed out of a weak thunderstorm, so officials say it is not surprising that it appeared without warning. They say this type of tornados is slow moving and difficult to track with radar. Officials also say the destructive power associated with this type of tornado is usually felt over a very small area.
