It’s Official: No Loughner/AR “Link”

Jared Taylor, Special to AR News, March 7, 2011

On January 8, a deranged gunman named Jared Loughner tried to kill Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and murdered half a dozen bystanders, including a federal judge. Readers may recall that soon afterwards, Fox News started reporting that the authorities had a “strong suspicion” that Mr. Loughner was “possibly linked” to American Renaissance, which they were stupidly describing as “anti-government” and “anti-Semitic.” The result was enormous media interest in AR, and a flood of hate mail (see “Jared Loughner and Jared Taylor: When Sloppy Police Work Meets Irresponsible Media”).

There were, of course, no links. The source of this rumor was an internal memo leaked from the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center (ACTIC). Three days after the shootings, the head of ACTIC, David Denlinger, was telling the media that the memo “overstated the link” between Mr. Loughner and AR, and the storm died down.

I spoke to Major Denlinger by phone several times to try to find out why ACTIC got it all wrong, but he never had an explanation. I also told him American Renaissance wanted to clear its name of any hint of an association with Mr. Loughner, and that I would like him to write a brief letter saying that ACTIC had no evidence of a “link” and that its characterization of AR as “anti-government” and “anti-Semitic” was wrong.

Major Denlinger sounded sympathetic. He suggested that I write his boss, Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Stanhope of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, explaining the damage the false report had done to our organization and asking for a letter of clarification. I wrote Colonel Stanhope on January 29 and waited for an answer. Weeks later I still had no answer so I called and left a message.

Col. Stanhope finally called back on March 4. He admitted that ACTIC had no evidence of a link of any kind between Mr. Loughner and AR. I asked why anyone said there was but he refused to explain. He also said he would not write a letter. I asked why not. He said his lawyers had advised against it. Again, I asked why not. He said an “exoneration” in our case would set a precedent for “exonerating” every suspect that was not pursued.

I said he didn’t have to “exonerate” us for anything. If he wanted to, he could write a letter saying that “at this time” he had no evidence of a link, leaving open the possibility that evidence could turn up later.

Col. Stanhope said Major Denlinger had already admitted that the AR-Loughner link had been “overstated,” and that that should be enough. I said it wasn’t enough. An “overstated” link suggests a link, whereas there was no link at all. He said he didn’t understand the statement that way. I told him he would be the only person who was unable to understand it.

He again said he could not write a letter, and asked if I couldn’t understand his position. I said no, I couldn’t, and that he certainly could write a letter. I said the lawyers work for him, not the other way around, and that no one was stopping him. I told him ACTIC had made a mistake and wasn’t man enough to admit it. He said that was my interpretation. I said that would be anyone’s interpretation.

I again asked if he would write a letter and again he refused. I asked him if he had ever heard the expression “public servant,” and hung up the phone. I forgot to ask Col. Stanhope where the goofy stuff about “anti-government” and “anti-Semitic” came from, but I don’t doubt he would have said his lawyers had forbidden him to speak.

So it’s official: there was no evidence of a Loughner/AR link. Or at least it’s official enough for a phone call but not official enough for a letter.

He’s implying that AR was somehow a criminal suspect. FAIL.

With no official statement on why they ever thought there was a “link,” we’re back to square one.

Any chance of taking legal action?

At the very least the threat of it would help create a bit of a ‘chilling effect’ on those who happily spout lying and mendacious propaganda.

Bad ink is better than no ink. Anything that puts American Renaissance in the news attracts more subscribers to the magazine.

Jared Taylor must have an awful lot of people wetting their panties, if they can’t exonerate American Renaissance for finding there was no AR/Loughner connection. To exonerate American Renaissance would admit they were wrong. They can’t risk doing that to an organization that champions Caucasian interests.

That’s because, to their chagrin, Jared doesn’t wear a white hood, or have a Nazi swastika branded in his forehead. That scares them because Jared doesn’t fit their pre-conceived idea of a Caucasian-interest oriented person. These are the same people who demand that Caucasians grovel and apologize for every act, or statement that somebody might deem “racist”. Yet, they trip all over themselves when they deal with Jared Taylor.

Keep up the good work, Jared. Don’t cave.

The sloppy police work that caused AR to get hate mail and unwanted publicity was bad enough, but the refusal to apologize for the error is unforgivable. I can’t imagine the police refusing to apologize to any “mainstream” organization in this way.

Jared you are absolutely right.

Your comments and position are dead on. But political correctness supersedes logical argument and decency. Political correctness has rules all its own.

The media and government agencies, above all—and I mean above all—pride themselves on being politically correct at all times. Amren is not politically correct and persues truths that are sometimes incompatible with political correctness. They will never apologize or even set the record straight factually because in their world you are politically incorrect and they are politically correct.

You should speak with a lawyer and sue the media and agencies that slandered Amren. A possible lawsuit is the other component in play here. They are afraid that if they apologize and set the record straight it would also be tantamount to an admission that they slandered Amren (which they did).

I UNDERSTAND IT

Now everytime there is a murder, the police can say they was a link to AR. Not The Panther Party, not the Communist Party but the AR or Beck.

Why tell the truth when this event presented such a golden opportunity to smear the right? They didn’t stop accusing “talk” radio of fomenting this incident for days when it was perfectly obvious the right had nothing to do with Loughner. It wasn’t just a “mistake” it’s evil.

Everyday, during my morning commute, I would log on and read AmRen on my phone. Three days after this scandal broke that erronously linked AmRen to the Arizona shooter I was unable to log on from my phone. Since that whole fiasco, when I try to log on I get “Error 502 Bad Gateway”
I’ve been meaning to let someone here know but it kept slipping my mind. This reminded me.
My carrier is Virgin Mobile, for the record, though not for much longer. Can they just block it like that?

I have only one problem with the whole incident. There ARE people who post here who have very strong anti- Jewish feelings. In some minds Jews are responsible for every evil that has plagued the world since the beginning of recorded history. I hyperbolize to make a point. These people see Jews as some sort of robots who march in lock-step when it comes to ideology. Jew is as much an ethnicity as it is a Religious following. There are Religious Jews who belong to three categories beginning with Orthodox and ending with reform. Orthodoxy manifests itself in various forms including the ultra-Orhtodox Hassidim.
There are cultural Jews some of whom are avowed atheists and some also communists and socialists.
They do demonstrate an admirable solidarity when it comes to advancing their interests, a quality instilled in them by milennia of persecution in the CHristian world (with its worst examples in the Czarist pogroms and the Nazi Final Solution) as a result of this universal belief that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. Italians had a label for Jews, They called them Mazza Cristi- Christ killers.
I’m a Catholic and as a kid remember in school being told that Jews murdered Jesus. A true Christian believes that Jesus was the human incarnation of the Holy Trinity and his mission was to come to earth to die for the purpose of redeeming the sins of man. Had he not died he would not have successfully completed his mission. Pope Benedict’s exoneration of the Jews was absurd.
We here at AMREN talk about the absurdity of Reparations to contemporary Blacks because of slavery and the recent move to apologize to CHinese Americans for the Chinese Exclusion Act but for almost two thousand years this totally ridiculous Jew baiting has been going on. The guilty consisted of members of the Sanhedrin and the Pharisees who considered Jesus’ influence and a threat to their political agenda in dealing with the Roman occupiers. Pontius Pilate as procurator should have shown some balls instead of wussing out from making a command decision but it was all part of the Divine plan. All those involved were mere players or tools if you like.
Let me not forget that there are also some here who don’t consider Jews as White people. I could do a litany of cases of Jews who have participated with us in victimhood at the hands of non- White criminals. I’m remembering Eve Carson and Lauren Burk, two lovely young women who were brutally murdered.

There are several posters here who identify themselves as Jews, good Americans who have common cause with us in dealing with the issues that threaten to destroy America. They continue to post here despite some of the egregious statements by a handful of AMRENers. I congratulate them on their tenacity.

I suggest that we welcome all allies in our struggle and stop living in the first Century AD.

Every news anchor who misreported the news owes American Renaissance a public apology.

It seems that due to the fact that Laughtner was jewish, the media felt that they would have a troublesome situation in correcting their misreporting because doing so would mean bringing clarity to the incident.

So not only did the media make a false accusation, they refused to tell the truth.

As educated American’s we shall never pursue a witch hunt against those of the jewish faith alone.

However, if a man commits a crime and it is found that his religion was a factor in his motivation to shoot and kill innocent people the media is obligated to make a well written and well versed report.

This is a typical slander (or libel) move by the Liberal media and has been a card they play since before I was born.

Take the competition and link them to a tragedy. After a lot of debating and arguing, say you will ‘look into it’.

After the fad of the tragedy blows over or peaks, admit you are wrong when no one is reading about it anymore.

The results are that 90% of the people that read that this nut case was linked to Amren won’t be following the article and still believe the two were linked. It is deliberate delayed information, akin to misinformation.

If the law in your state permits it, you should record these phone calls and then put them up on this site. It might provide some actual evidence of exoneration and, if nothing else, it would provide an interesting example of bureaucratic double-talk.

I do not think we can blame this one on “the liberal media.”

CId Campeador,

You are certainly right to criticise those who obsessively focus on Jews, but you go to the other extreme. To suggest that all anti-Jewish feelings has been ‘totally ridiculous’ only shows ignorance on your part. Like you admitted earlier in your post, Jews are quite good at advancing their interests. Sometimes those interests conflict with those of others and this is exactly what happened in 20th Century America. That some whites are not happy about the behavior of the Jewish elite in their country is something quite understandable if you ask me.

21 — Alexandra wrote at 6:33 AM on March 8:

@Cid Campeador:

Not to mention the first Christians were Jews.

I’m sure there may be a few here who dislike Jews, Amerinds, anyone that’s not white…but they’re entitled to their opinion. AmRen itself isn’t anti-Semitic, it’s just realist.

Myself, I don’t *hate* other races. But I’m sick of the antics of the majority of blacks, and I believe that each race should have its own nation(s).

I think AR should sue. If nothing else, it would give AR some positive publicity, if handled right. We can’t always be playing defence. Some bonehead recently put a political button on eBay which featured Palin and Laughner with the words, “Straight Shooters” above them. I put in a complaint to eBay saying the seller was exploiting a maniac murderer in violation of eBay standards. I also notified the Palin people. Ebay will not allow any images of Hitler, unless they are on a stamp. I guess the philatelic lobby trumps political correctness. I made the comparison of allowing a dealer to sell a button that pictured Palin and Hitler with the words, “Great Public Speakers”. I don’t know if it was my complaint or the collective complaints of Palin fans and others who just don’t like guys who shoot little girls, but eBay kicked the button off their website a couple days later. Come on Sam Dicksen. Take a move from the SPLC play book and sue these bastards for damages.

As a result of this incident, you can bet that a lot of people, if they ever hear American Renaissance mentioned again, will think, “Oh, yeah. That’s the group the guy who shot the Arizona congresswoman belonged to.”

That’s the way smear campaigns work.

Sure they can. And so can the government. Congress is working furiously to give Obama the power to shut down the Internet, a Kill Switch, if you will, in cases of “national emergency.”

Guess who gets to define what is or isn’t a “national emergency.”

Meanwhile, Obama himself criticized Egyptian authorities for shutting down the Internet for their own “national emergency.”

“A controversial bill handing President Obama power over privately owned computer systems during a ‘national cyberemergency,’ and prohibiting any review by the court system, will return this year.

Internet companies should not be alarmed by the legislation, first introduced last summer by Sens. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), a Senate aide said last week.”

—Report from CBS news

Let’s hope this hateful legislation dies a quick death.

What sickens me is that one cannot draw attention to those antics unless one blames them on “white racism.” In other words, it is not their fault they are that way; it is our fault. I doubt there are many people who genuinely believe that any more, but one is more or less required to pretend to believe it in public.

If American Renaissance can come to the attention of the millions of whites who reluctantly obey the restrictions of political correctness while chafing under those restrictions it can sell tens of thousands of subscriptions to its magazine.

I think the more important issue here is the thought that somehow just because a nut goes out and does something crazy, he was clearly influenced by biggest scapegoat of the week. The best comparison I can think of on the fly would be Columbine, where it was ‘those violent video games’ and with Amren it’s ‘those evil anti-government/anti-semitic white supremacists.’

Both of which come off as completely idiotic when you realize that 1) There are far more visually disturbing and violent video games than Doom, which came out in 1993, and 2) Amren isn’t an anti-government/anti-semitic publication, nor is it supremacist in any way.
@10:
Personally I prefer the Jared Taylor line of thought, “They look white to me.”

A white self-hating traitor is a traitor regardless of whether or not he’s a jew. Saying ashkenazi jews aren’t white is like saying that shepardic jews aren’t arabs. Ridiculous, and until I see DNA evidence that says otherwise I’m not going to believe it.
