This post has been corrected. See note at the bottom for details.

Prosecutors charged a Wildomar man Tuesday with disobeying a court order to stay away from Paris Hilton and her boyfriend after he showed up at her Malibu residence.

James Brian Rainford, 36, faces one count of disobeying a court order, a misdemeanor.

He is scheduled to appear for arraignment Tuesday afternoon in Van Nuys Superior Court. Prosecutors asked that bail be set at $20,000.

Rainford was arrested Monday by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies outside Hilton’s Malibu home after he was recognized by paparazzi, who notified deputies.

The stay-away order was issued in October by Los Angeles County Superior Court the day after the defendant was arrested on a battery charge involving Hilton and her boyfriend.

Rainford later was prosecuted by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office on a misdemeanor charge.

[For the Record, 3:58 p.m. July 5: An earlier version of this post incorrectly said James Brian Rainford was from Windomar. He is from Wildomar.]
