JOHNNY Archer is the first player to be selected for USA in this year's PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup.

Archer, 41, will be making his 14th appearance in the competition, a record for an American player and matched only by European stalwarts Ralf Souquet and Mika Immonen should they be selected for December's event.

"It's an honour to be selected for the Mosconi Cup again," said a delighted Archer, who was elected to the Hall of Fame this time last year.

"I am so pleased that I can't put it into words. After being on two losing teams in a row, winning last year was the best experience I have ever had at the Mosconi Cup."

Archer was a crucial part of a strong side that emerged 11-7 victors over Europe at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last December.

This year's Mosconi Cup, which will be held from December 9 to 12, returns to the iconic York Hall in Bethnal Green, east London.

"I am so excited to be representing USA at, for me, the birthplace of the Mosconi Cup, the York Hall," added Archer.

"This is my 14th straight appearance at the Mosconi Cup and hopefully I can draw on my experience for a good showing."

Georgia-based Archer is top of the BCA Points List and is in an unassailable position with only the US Open still counting towards Mosconi Cup selections.

Archer made his Mosconi Cup debut at the York Hall in 1997, the first year the competition was staged at York Hall and he carries an enviable record of 33 points won from 63 matches.

Taking place at East London's famous York Hall, following an eight-year absence, the PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup features two five man teams representing Europe and the USA competing over four days.

The remaining four American spots will be announced in October with the number two ranked player after the US Open guaranteed a berth on the side.
