SPO Assessment Team Conducts Combating Trafficking in Persons Evaluation in Afghanistan |
February 21, 2012 - A Special Plans and Operations Assessment Team from the DoD Office of Inspector General recently conducted fieldwork at U.S. and NATO Installations throughout Afghanistan regarding the Combating Trafficking in Persons Program. The team conducted over 100 interviews with command staff, contracting officials, and contractors responsible for contract performance and execution in Kabul, Bagram, Kandahar, Camp Leatherneck and Shindand. The team briefed their preliminary observations to senior contracting officials in Kabul.
The field work was part of the evaluation responding to requirements in Public Law 110- 457, "William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008," and Department of Defense Instruction 2200.01, "Combating Trafficking in Persons," dated September 15, 2010. |

National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations Subcommittee Holds Hearing on Oversight in Iraq and Afghanistan: Challenges and Solutions |
December 7, 2011 - Inspector General Gordon Heddell testified today before the Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations, Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, on "Oversight in Iraq and Afghanistan: Challenges and Solutions."
Also appearing with Mr. Heddell before the Subcommittee were Mr. Harold W. Geisel, Department of State Inspector General, Mr. Michael G. Carroll, Acting Inspector General for the U.S. Agency for International Development, Mr. Stuart Bowen, Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, and Mr. Steven Trent, Acting Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.

Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight Holds Hearing on Contractor Whistleblowers |
December 6, 2011 - Ms. Marguerite Garrison, Deputy Inspector General for Administrative Investigations, testified on December 6th before the Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight, Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, on "Whistleblower Protections for Government Contractors."
Ms. Peggy Gustafson, Inspector General for the Small Business Administration also appeared with Ms. Garrison in the first panel testifying before the Subcommittee.

Semiannual Report to the Congress is Issued |
December 6, 2011 - The Semiannual Report to the Congress for the reporting period of April 1, 2011 to September 30, 2011 has been issued. The report summarizes the significant achievements of DoD IG, as well as the audit and investigative agencies of the military departments.
During the reporting period, DoD IG issued 82 reports to include audits, assessments, and evaluations and identified potential monetary benefits of $547 million. DCIS, working closely with other law enforcement agencies, conducted investigations resulting in $440 million in fines, restitutions, and recoveries. This report highlights oversight efforts related to overseas contingency operations; health and safety of the warfighter; spare and substandard parts; improper payments; and the Guam realignment. The report also summarizes significant accomplishments of DoD IG audits, investigations, and inspections.

Subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and Procurement Reform Holds Hearing on Human Trafficking |
November 2, 2011 - Deputy Inspector General for Special Plans & Operations, Ambassador Kenneth Moorefield testified today before the Subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations, Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, on “Examining Enforcement of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.”
Also appearing with Ambassador Moorefield were; Mr. Michael P. Howard, Chief Operation Officer, Army and Air Force Exchange Service; Ms. Evelyn Klemstine, Assistant Inspector General for Audits, U.S. Department of State; Ms. Linda Dixon, Combating Trafficking in Persons Program Manager, U.S. Department of Defense.

FY 2012 Comprehensive Oversight Plan for Southwest Asia Issued |
November 1, 2011 - The Department of Defense Inspector General and the Southwest Asia Joint Planning Group have issued the FY 2012 update to the Comprehensive Oversight Plan for Southwest Asia. To view the FY 2012 update click here.
The Comprehensive Oversight Plan for Southwest Asia incorporates the planned and ongoing oversight by the members of the Southwest Asia Planning Group which include: the Inspectors General of the Department of Defense, Department of State, and the U.S. Agency for International Development; the Special Inspectors General for Iraq Reconstruction and Afghanistan Reconstruction; the Army Audit Agency; the Naval Audit Service; and the Air Force Audit Agency.
