Mikhail Gorbachev will found new political party

One-time president of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev announced today that he would return to politics with the creation of a new political party. The party will be called the Independent Democratic Party of Russia, he said today.
“We have arrived at the conclusion that there should be such a party in the country, and the work of the initiative committee for its creation has already received the support of many citizens,” Interfax quotes Gorbachev as saying. Gorbachev also claimed to have received 10,000 letters in support of the new party.
Arguments and Facts Online quotes the former president as saying that the new party, which he characterized as “social-democratic,” will make it a priority to advance the “anti-crisis initiative” developed by economists at the Gorbachev Foundation.
