Realigned Powell Road is now open

Thursday, August 16, 2007

The Ohio Department of Transportation on Aug. 8 opened the $5.9-million realignment of the western end of Powell Road, ODOT District 6 spokesman Mike Stout said.

The project realigned Powell Road at its intersection with Riverside Drive (state Route 257) near Glick Road.

The land for the realignment was given to ODOT by Columbus and Franklin County, owners of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium property, in exchange for about 10 acres near the existing Powell Road-Riverside Drive intersection, zoo executive director Jerry Borin said earlier.

The realignment "is going to benefit the zoo, but also the traffic flow in southern Delaware County," Borin said.

The portion of the former Powell Road will become an internal road for the zoo, Borin said.
