The Beastie Boys are TWENTY-FOUR. Can you believe it? I even had to type out the words twenty four because you can't capitalize numbers, and bold wouldn't have really been as effective.

To celebrate they (and Capitol Records, of course) are releasing Solid Gold Hits, a 15-track retrospective due out on Nov. 8 (Election Day!). Included, of course, are Shake Your Rump, Hey Ladies, So Whatcha Want... you know, the hits!

Beware, Consumers Of First-Generation Apple Products

Those iPod Nanos? They're the cutest darn things. Also, a tenth of 1% of them have screen problems. That's the word, first from the street, then from Apple HQ in Cali. Some owners have been complaining of "cracked, scratched or inexplicably failing screens, sometimes within hours of buying the machine".

But the good news is that Apple is responding. After an irate owner set up a complaint website, the company acknowledged the problem and is offering replacements.

Good ole Apple - often there is something wrong with products fresh out of the gate, but they always fix them. I always wait a few months... for everything. Apple products, movies, asking girls out... you name it.

Better Put On A Pot Of Coffee

Remember in A Few Good Men when Demi Moore's character put on another pot of coffee? It was to sober up a drunken Tom Cruise, and to give everyone some caffeine to pull an all-nighter. Anyway, that line always made me laugh.

Demi and Ashton got married, apparently. Much has been made of Demi and Ashton's May - December relationship. That means one half of the couple is young, the other old. I was in a May - December relationship once, but that was more literal - it began in May, ended in December of the same year.

Long Island Rock Venue Closes Its Doors

Dear Friends,

As of Monday, September 19, 2005, the Downtown will be closing its doors.

We'd like to thank all of the musician's who have made the Downtown such an incredible venue to come and listen to live music. You've been fantastic to work with. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent. We wish you all tremendous success in the future.

As importantly, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the fans who have given us the opportunity to open our doors for the many days and nights of great music we've shared. You've been incredible and we will always be tremendously grateful for your support.

And finally, we'd like to thank our dedicated, hardworking staff for being such a wonderful group of caring and devoted people
Without you, the Downtown would never have been possible.

Together, all of us have created music history on Long Island that, hopefully, won't be forgotten for many years to come.

When Straylight Run wanted to play its first public concert, it chose The Downtown. Taking Back Sunday [PICTURED] performed one of its first shows with its current lineup there. After Glassjaw singer Daryl Palumbo recovered from a recent illness, he booked two last-minute comeback shows at the club. Lux Courageous, As Tall as Lions and Bayside all celebrated CD releases there.

First His Career Was Annulled, Now His Marriage

It's over. Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney are calling it quits after only four months. Zellweger is citing 'Fraud' as a reason for the annulment. Fraud... very interesting. So... Chesney was fraudulent as a husband? Whatever could Renee mean? She never accused Jack White of being a fraud.

Stop Me If You Think, Blah Blah Blah...

One of the great rock n' roll photos has finally gained official recognition: the National Portrait Gallery in London has purchased Stephen Wright's legendary photo of the Smiths, which featured inside the liner notes for their classic 1986 album The Queen Is Dead.

The photo was taken outside of the Salford Lads Club (obviously) in the band's hometown of Manchester, a landmark which also features prominently in the video for the Smiths' Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before.
