In the final Triple-A All-Star Game matching American League and National League affiliates, the AL stars withstood four errors and two late NL rallies to win the tenth annual Triple-A All-Star Game in front of a standing-room only crowd. The AL stars got on the scoreboard early against home-town pitcher Dave Swartzbaugh as Rochester's Danny Clyburn and Toledo's Frank Catalanotto each homered in the three-run second inning. After a single run by the NL in the third, Catalanotto doubled and scored on an error by Albuquerque's Paul Konerko to give the AL stars all the runs they would need. The National League rallied for unearned runs in both the sixth and seventh innings but were silenced by relievers Jeff Darwin (Nashville) and Eddie Gaillard (Toledo) as the AL held on for a 5-3 win. Pawtucket's Brian Rose started for the AL and pitched two innings of one-hit ball to gain the win while Swartzbaugh took the loss. Catalanotto's 2 run, 2 RBI performance earned him IL "Star of Star" honors. Nashville's Magglio Ordonez (1 run, 1 RBI) and Colorado Springs' hurler Nate Minchey (2 IP, 1 hit, 3 strikeouts) earned MVP honors for the AA and PCL, respectively.

Salt Lake infielder Todd Walker held the sellout crowd of home team faithful in the palm of his hand twice on this spectacular evening. His solo home run in the fourth loomed mighty large as the game entered the late innings. It began to look as if the 9th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game would be the first to finish by a 1-0 count. However, in the top of the eighth the NL struck quickly off of losing pitcher Jeff Schmidt (Vancouver). Schmidt struck out the side but unfortunately for he and his American League teammates, it followed a Neifi Perez (Colorado Springs) leadoff double to right and a Brook Fordyce (Indianapolis) homer to left-center. With fans on their feet, the hometown hero Walker returned to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with a chance to tie the score. It was not to be as the 2-1 score in favor of the National League was the final. Walker was selected the MVP for the PCL and Fordyce for the AA. Huck Flener (Syracuse) took MVP honors for the IL with a three inning 1-strikeout 1-hit performance. Derek Wallace (Norfolk) notched the win with a perfect eighth and Steve Mintz (Phoenix) earned the save with a perfect ninth.

Seven American League hurlers combined for the first shutout in the history of the Game, limiting a formidable National League lineup to just two hits. In the top of the first inning the AL squad capitalized on three hits, two stolen bases, and three NL errors to jump out to a 3-0 lead, which proved to be more than enough support for the veteran AL staff. Starter Pat Ahearne (Toledo) tossed two hitless innings to pick up the win while rookie sensation Jason Isringhausen (Norfolk) was saddled with the loss. Isringhausen took the mound as the NL starter despite being promoted to the Mets earlier in the week. The AL affiliates produced single tallies in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before AA MVP Luis Lopez (Buffalo) put the finishing touches on the 9-0 rout with a towering 3-run homer in the eighth. Lopez, who earned IL MVP honors in the '94 Game, drove in four runs on three hits and scored three more. Syracuse's Howard Battle was named the IL MVP by virtue of his three hits and two runs for the American League stars. The junior circuit affiliates swept the MVP awards as Riccardo Ingram (Salt Lake) captured PCL honors.

Despite jumping out to early 1-0 and 4-1 leads, the AL affiliates bowed to their National League counterparts for the fifth time in the seven year history of the Game. The clubs recorded a like number of baserunners but the NL squad recorded five doubles, three of which came during the pivotal middle innings when the winners crossed the plate six times. For the second consecutive year the game's outcome was significantly impacted by the play of Richmond players. Luis Lopez earned IL MVP honors with a 3-hit night while teammate Brad Woodall was the winning pitcher as he faced only 6 hitters in 2 perfect innings of work. Gary Buckels (Louisville) recorded the save. Kirt Ojala (Columbus) was tagged with the loss following a 2 inning outing in which he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 4. Playing in his third Triple-A All-Star Game (1990, '92, & '94), Paul Faries drove in 2 runs with a double and was named the PCL MVP. Even though the home team AL stars went down to defeat, the local faithful had Ray Durham's (Nashville) performance to cheer. Ray went 3-for-3 and was named the AA MVP.

Rain, Rain Go Away! A two-hour rain delay preceded the fireworks generated by the National League affiliates. Performances by four Richmond Braves' representatives, especially that of Ryan Klesko, keyed the NL's success. Klesko's 4 for 4 night with a double, 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored made him the IL's MVP. Teammates Chipper Jones and Javier Lopez went a combined 3 for 6 with 2 RBI. R-Brave hurler Bill Taylor pitched two perfect innings while striking out 3. Hometown hero Billy Ashley (Albuquerque) was named PCL MVP for his 2 for 3, 2 RBI effort. Playing in his second Triple-A All-Star Game, the first being for Portland in 1988, NL starting pitcher Roy Smith (Buffalo) received MVP honors for the American Association.
