The Department of Corrections is responsible for overseeing the operation of 26 state correctional institutions, one motivational boot camp, 14 community corrections centers, nearly 40 contract facilities, a training academy, approximately 16,000 employees and more than 51,000 inmates.  County prisons in Pennsylvania are not under the jurisdiction of the DOC, and parole is governed by the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.


The entire state prison system is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

In 2010, the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections began using JPAY for the processing of ALL MONEY ORDERS sent to PA DOC inmates, as well as ALL incoming email.

Money orders are no longer accepted at individual institutions.

This service is being provided at NO COST to the inmate or sender and allows the funds to be posted to inmate accounts electronically and result in quicker access to the deposited funds.
