Stephen is a third generation member of the Snow family and a long-term resident of Canberra. After primary and secondary schooling at Canberra Boys Grammar, Stephen graduated from the Australian National University with Law and Commerce degrees and commenced work. He worked with Mallesons Stephen Jacques in Sydney, principally in commercial and property law.

Together with his father Terry Snow, Stephen recognised that the sale of Canberra Airport by the Commonwealth in 1998 would provide a new era of opportunity for Canberra, the ACT and the surrounding region. Capital Airport Group Pty Limited was formed and in May 1998, Stephen was responsible for the coordination of local and international consultants to put together the bid for the purchase of the Canberra Airport - he was instrumental in its success.
Stephen is currently the Managing Director of both the airport lessee company, Canberra Airport Pty Limited, and the airport management company, Capital Airport Group Pty Limited.

In the eight years under Stephen Byron's management, the Group has embarked on a $220 million major works program that has transformed the Airport from an aviation backwater into a transport hub for southeastern Australia. New access roads were engineered, car parks were made bigger and more accessible, a multi-user terminal was built to encourage low cost operators Virgin Blue and Rex and the main runway and taxiways were upgraded to cater for a new generation of wide-bodied aircraft - both commercial and those carrying international VIPs directly into the national capital.

Acknowledging the Airport's capacity to generate economic growth for the region, Capital Airport Group commenced construction of the Brindabella Business Park, a world-class cluster of modern and environmentally sustainable office buildings that also boasts a pre-school, a service station, gymnasium, café and restaurant and sporting fields.

The Australian Airports Association formally recognised Stephen's leadership and Capital Airport Group's excellence in Australian aviation when it named Canberra the Australian Airport of the Year for 2002.

Under Stephen's leadership, Capital Airport Group has forged a close working relationship with surrounding communities to ensure that the impact of aircraft noise is minimised and has taken a strong public stand against local developers pressing for the development of housing estates under the Airport's flight path.
