Easier Said Than Done

Chinatown Bus, 8pm
95 South, heading back again
The sun drops low against a yellow sky
The city looks nice, I don't know why

I came to NY with a 2-day plan
Now it's one week later, and look where I am
Same city, different day, but we're finally leaving town
New Jeresy’s factories, and I wish I could tear them down

Tompkins Square, a few days back
Some friends, a guitar, and a backpack
They're copping dope, walking off real quick
Coming back, nodding off, it's sad as shit

I know too many good people who have sold their hope
To a broken record and a bag of dope
And it's sad to see a friend fall when you thought the war was won
I act as if that's easy, yeah, it's easier said than done

J Train station, scammed a pass
Heading out to Brooklyn, looking back
Got a big heart and an empty hand
A friend and a pack and tentative plans

Drank 40s til dawn with a bunch of good kids
Went to sleep and woke late just to do it again
Late night biking and punk rock shows, the finer things indeed
Socializing and organizing, spreading the seed

2 hearts beating, a kiss in the dark
A beautiful woman, an industrial park
Manhattan skyline, East River shore
A moment in time never seen before

It's nice to find beauty in a fucked up place
With the poverty and misery this city creates
And it's strange to think that one day it'll all come crashing down
And if no ones around to hear it, you think it'll make a sound?

Orange moon glowing, Philadelphia fades,
Straight 48, southbound train
We're moving finally, the warm wind blows
To Baltimore or Pittsburgh, who really knows

I'm thinking about her, it's probly 3am
Heading free through the Appalachian Mountains
I'm awake, my eyes wide open, another day's ahead
One lung pumps for the living, the other pumps for the dead
