“Transformers” helps Hasbro’s Q2 profits

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Paramount isn’t the only company benefitting from the bountiful box office being earned by Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” Hasbro, the original toy line that invented Autobost and Decepticons, also is receiving a substantial boost thanks to the special-effects extravaganza.

Hasbro says Q2 profits jumped 33% thanks, in part, to Transformers sales, THR reports. Specifically, the boys division revenue jumped 96% — staggering.

“As expected, top-line momentum in our business began to build during the quarter, led by strong gains in the Transformers brand, driven by ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon,’ and Beyblade” and continued strong international growth, said president and CEO Brian Goldner.

Which makes you wonder if either Hasbro or Paramount will let this cash cow die. “Dark of the Moon” so far has earned $302 million in the States and an estimated $762M worldwide. Though Shia LaBeouf and Bay have suggested they are done with the franchise, it’s hard for a studio to walk away from a moneymaker. Just ask Warner Bros., who is saying goodbye to the profitable “Potter” series. We’ll see if “Transformers” is finished, but my guess is it isn’t … not with numbers like this.
