THIS fascinating little pamphlet has been produced by our friends at Woden's Folk, one of the more organised and dedicated advocates of Norse mythology in England today. Their task, as is evident from Woden Folk's in-house magazines like 'Spear of Woden' and 'Sword of Wayland', is to create a new faith for the people of this historic land.

Two of the main themes one can draw from Woden's Folk publications are those of inter-religious prophecy and apocalyptic vision. The group's main co-ordinator, known simply as 'Wulf', served his apprenticeship in The Odinic Rite during the 1970s and can therefore rely upon a vast wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience. The Woden's Folk ethos is promulgated with an almost millennarian fervour, with talk of a coming Avatar in the form of a mysterious 'Hooded Man'. But more of that later. The important thing to remember, however, is that Woden's Folk are part of a continual quest to rediscover our hidden spiritual heritage by seeking to examine its partially obscured roots in texts usually associated with the devoted followers of Christianity, Hinduism and other religions. Indeed, as this pamphlet makes clear from the very outset: 'this is not a 'christian' work, it is a Heathen reinterpretation of 'The Revelation of St. John the Divine'.' In other words, the author is suggesting that the Bible itself is a work of great esoteric importance and that its true meaning has been both submerged and misinterpreted for many centuries. Woden's Folk believe that the aforementioned 'Hooded Man' represents the coming 'Last Avatara' of Woden (Odin) himself - a god in human form - and that St. John's apocalyptic conclusion to what is commonly regarded as a 'Christian' work is encased within a thick judaic smokescreen.

In the first chapter, the coming Avatara - who, like Shiva, is both Creator and Destroyer - is given the title 'Spirit 88', which is used as a substitute for the name 'Jesus Christ' and represents a magickal and significant number. This is due to the 88 constellations that make up the Milky Way, said to relate to the Curvilinear Swastika which gives our galaxy its spiral appearence. So what are the actual origins of this 'Spirit 88'? The biblical account of the Second Coming and its antithetical opponent, the Anti-Christ, is already well known and has been discussed perpetually by theologians and since fictionalised in films like 'The Omen' trilogy and 'Rosemary's Baby'. According to the author, however, the cosmic struggle between Christ and Anti-Christ is a misrepresentation of reality. The true 'Alpha and Omega', for example, is said to be the Warrior Avatara into whom descends the holy 'dove' described in the Bible throughout the accounts provided in the Four Gospels by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. But what is usually regarded as the 'Dove of Jehovah' is interpreted here as the Anglo-Saxon word 'diver', meaning the descent of an Avatara. The author also notes that the symbol of a dove appears in the Grail mysteries and, perhaps more importantly, relates to Venus in that the words 'bright and Morning Star' also appear in St. John's own text. Venus, as Virgo in the Zodiac, is therefore the 'virgin' mentioned in relation to the birth of the Avatar himself. Sightings of the Virgin Mary at Fatima and Lourdes, for example, usually associated with Catholicism, now take on a whole new meaning. The woman who appears 'clothed with the Sun, and the Moon under her feet' with 'a crown of twelve stars' is more likely to be a reference to Venus, shown famously poised on a conch shell by Sandro Botticelli in 'The Birth of Venus'. Meanwhile, the apocalyptic Dragon who 'was wroth with the woman, and went to make war on the remnant of her seed' is said to be a 'Deceiver' which can only be countered by 'the White Dragon of England'. Matthew 24:29-30 then tells us that 'Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened . . . and the stars shall fall from Heaven . . . And then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in Heaven'. The author tells us that this relates to the solar eclipse of August 11th, 1999, and that the positions of the stars on that date could be formed into an Ing-Rune (symbolising the Waters of Life): 'This was a Circle-X with the arms pointing to Leo (Lion), Aquarius (Man), Taurus (Calf/Bull) and Scorpio (Eagle) - these being the Four Beasts mentioned in revelation. This heralded the New Age - the Age of Aquarius.' Indeed, this is by no means the first source to refer to the Aquarian age, although the fact that the stars were alligned in a runic pattern gives the prophecy a decidedly Odinic tinge. We are then informed that the Circle-X symbol is beginning to appear with more regularity, not least 'in the General Election of 1997 at the time of the Hale-Bopp Comet.' Another of St. John's descriptive phrases is likened to Gandalf The White, who appears to save his comrades in J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings': 'His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as the flame of fire . . . and his countenance was as the Sun shineth in his strength.' The author doesn't explain why a piece of twentieth-century fiction is significant in terms of the coming Avatar, but it is a fact that Tolkien's work was heavily based on Anglo-Saxon and Norse mythology.

The next section deals with the opening of the Seven Seals. The first relates to a white horse and a man with a bow, but rather than elaborate further upon the Gandalf theme (the wizard was, of course, riding on a white horse when he appeared suddenly at Helm's Deep) the author connects this to Woden appearing as Herne the Hunter. The next five seals have more to do with the spirit of Chaos that prevails during the End-times, but the seventh seal - which mentions the arrival of seven destructive angels - is rather more interesting in that a seventh angel announces that 'there should be time no longer'. According to the author, this is 'a clear reference to the period of No-Time and No-Space between World-Ages when Time & Space is dissolved and Old Chaos reigns instead of Cosmic Order. Today we experience this era when times seems to go faster and faster.' I would add, perhaps, that it represents the transition between the Kali-Yuga and a new Golden Age. A thin veil between this world and the next. The work of Mircea Eliade has discussed similar themes. This brings us to the nature of the Beast. The Dragon which attempts to destroy the Woman and Child (see above) has seven heads and ten horns and 'represents the European Union which had an original membership of ten and had seven heads of state - as had the United Nations which is its global counterpart.' Consequently, St. Michael the Archangel appears and the Woman is given the wings of an Eagle in order to make her escape. This is interpreted as 'the Wife-Earn (Wyvern) or 'Eagle-Woman' who is the White Lady found at places of birth and creation. She is the Ar-Kona or Ur-Kona - the Primal Goddess of Birth and Rebirth. The Wyvern is alternatively the White Dragon - the opposition to the Red Dragon of the Pax Romana.' Thus the essentially English significance is there for all to see. Seen in a purely temporal context, the struggle is one of national freedom and liberation against an internationalist adversary which seeks to both dominate and devour its prey. The number of the Beast, 666, popularised in more recent times through fiction and by Metal bands such as Iron Maiden, is said to relate, not to the Devil, but to the Electronic Fund Transfer System. Thousands of Christians would no doubt agree that the secret meaning behind the barcode is universal enslavement at the behest of a higher, sinister power, but once again there is to be no full convergence between the author and those who consider the 'Revelation of St. John the Divine' to be a sacred Christian text. And neither does he compare Babylon with Iraq: '[It] may well refer to the more ancient Babylonian Empire, but here it also refers to the later Pax Romana.' In other words, the final stages of the globalist empire. And what of the imminent demise itself? The phrase 'Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found at all no more . . .' is compared to the events of September 11th, 2001, when the twin pillars of the capitalist empire in New York were utterly destroyed from the air. The Avatara, who finally destroys the great Dragon (or Satan), is compared to St. George, still Albion's most celebrated dragon-slayer. Indeed, the overthrow of beasts is a common theme in Norse and Anglo-Saxon literature and one also thinks of conquerors like Siegfried and Beowulf.

Three whole pages are then given over to the subject of Freemasonry, much of it taken from ideas contained in 'The Hiram Key' by Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas. A lot of this material has been covered before, but whilst the author recounts the legend of temple architect Hiram Abif and his subsequent murder, he agrees with Knight and Lomas that the name 'Hiram Abif' may have been 'substituted for the name of an Egyptian King called Seqenenre Tao II whose mummified body showed signs of his being murdered.' Allow me to summarise. It is well known that the Freemasonic ritual of the Third Degree (Master Mason) is based on this murder, but the author concludes that modern Freemasonry has lost its direction and misunderstands the true meaning that lies behind it. We are reminded of the Egyptian mysteries involving Osiris, Set, Isis and Horus, and of the fact that every Egyptian king was descended from Horus, just as our Anglo-Saxon kings were descended from Woden. Secret rites, during which the Egyptian kings were initiated, were devised to prevent the forces of chaos and disorder (symbolised by the god Set) from taking them over and turning them to their own advantage. Meanwhile, the murderers of Hiram Abif (or, more correctly, Seqenenre Tao II) - the Hyksos, who were descended from Semitic tribespeople - had become rulers of Egypt. This was seen as an affront to the traditional ways of the Ancients and they sided with the forces of evil. The metaphysical inspiration behind this new manifestation of power was Isfet, 'an evil dragon-like, monstrous serpent-god' known as Apophis. Eventually, however, these elements were purged from Egypt by the sons of Seqenenre Tao II and driven towards Palestine. These events only become clearer, however, when it is revealed that 'In Masonic legend the killers of Hiram Abif are named as Jubelo, Jubela, and Jubelum, together described as 'The Juwes'.' Furthermore, that fact that the original mysteries have since been revealed and made manifest, confirm the fact that, according to the author, 'the Cosmic Cycles have run their course, reaching the Dark Age where the masses ('The People') have usurped the power of the ancient God-Kings who ruled by Divine Right in the truest sense - they were incarnations of the God-Head.' The besmirching or watering-down of these secrets was also confirmed by Evola, who describes the dissolution of the caste-system and the coming rule of the masses in his 'Revolt Against the Modern World'. But all is not lost, as the author explains: 'What has already been quoted may seem to create an impression of a future of total disaster, total collapse, with the resulting terror of anarchy and chaos. This is how things must look to the mass of people, but to those of the Elect of Woden this can only bring to us the freedom we have long fought for. We welcome these events.'

The last chapter concentrates on what is known as 'the Anglo-Saxon rune-row'. As mentioned previously, the Ing-Rune has often been seen in the most unexpected places. The author tells us that it has also been appearing on the side of buildings in the Hove area, on the English south coast. These events are perceived to be signs of the coming Avatar, defined in this form as a manifestation of the Sun-Hero or Solar-Hawk. The author goes on to examine similarities between the Egyptian glyph for the Morning Star, the Wyn-Rune and the Christian chi-rho; all of which indicate that it is some form of skull and crossbones motif. This ties in with the fact that Masonry's Third Degree counterbalances the Morning Star (Rebirth) with the Skull & Crossbones (Death-to-Rebirth).

Finally, the author summarises his theories and concludes that the bible does have an element of truth to it. Furthermore, a re-examination of Freemasonry has led us to ask whether a distortion of its true secrets has enabled our enemies to use its ancient power for their own ends and plunge the world into Chaos. This little pamphlet is well worth reading and the various similarities contained therein are more than sheer coincidence and require further exploration.
