2012 America the Beautiful Quarters™

The America the Beautiful Quarters Program is proud to go beyond the borders of the continental United States and produce coins for six territories. The first of these, introduced in 2012, celebrates Puerto Rico's El Yunque National Forest.

EL YUNQUE NATIONAL FOREST OVERVIEW

The only tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest system, this 28,000-acre protected area in the Luquillo Mountains draws about 600,000 visitors every year from all over the world. They are attracted to the unique biodiversity afforded by a forest with yearly rainfall: the park contains hundreds of species of trees, orchids, plants and animals. The climate is especially ideal for smaller animals lie Coqui frogs and large snails, who enjoy the near-constant moisture.
