Arlington, Va. - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has published a new standard, "A Full Duplex Ethernet Specification for 1000Mbis/s (1000BASE-TX) Operating Over Category 6 Balanced Twisted-Pair Cabling," TIA/EIA-854. The purpose of this standard is to provide an Ethernet physical layer specification that is less complex compared to 1000BASE-T. The document will take advantage of the improved transmission performance provided by category 6 cabling currently under development in TIA/EIA TR-42 and ISO/IEC JTC1 SC25 WG3, and eliminate the 1000BASE-T requirement of canceling the effects of crosstalk and return loss. TIA/EIA-854 specifies a 1000BASE-TX PHY layer as defined in the ISO/IEC Open Systems Interconnection reference model. TIA/EIA-854 was created by TIA TR-41.5 Subcommittee on MultiMedia-Building Distribution Systems.
