It’s Easy

Skip the congestion on Interstate 264 into Norfolk. Forget parking downtown. Once you board the train, you can talk or work on your phone, read, or simply look out the window and relax. With five stations downtown, you’ll be within easy walking distance to work. The Tide will take less than a half hour to travel from Newtown Road to the Eastern Virginia Medical Center.

Free parking

Parking is free at the Newtown Road, Military Highway, Ballentine/Broad Creek and Harbor Park stations. No matter how you reach a light rail station – walking, riding your bike or connecting from one of the 18 bus routes that support light rail – you’ll be steps away from a smooth, carefree ride.

Save Money

Monthly parking in downtown Norfolk costs up to $85 with additional costs for gas and maintenance for your vehicle. Cut those costs with a 30-day Go Pass for $50. Don’t need a monthly pass? One trip is $1.50. A day pass that allows unlimited transfers is $3.50. All fare cards can be purchased from the ticket vending machine at any station. Discounted fares are available for youth, seniors and persons with disabilities.

Dining, Shopping and Entertainment

Explore Norfolk without the hassles of traffic and parking. Some of the region’s best dining is found in Downtown Norfolk where you’ll find unmatched night life that appeals to all tastes and attitudes. There’s baseball in the summer, hockey in the winter and amazing events at Town Point Park, Chrysler Hall and Scope throughout the year.

Bring Your Wheels

Light rail trains have docking stations for bicycles and a place for those in wheelchairs. On foot or on wheels, you can roll or stroll right on board. The Tide light rail vehicles and stations are designed to permit level boarding.

Go Green

Taking small steps to reduce your carbon footprint can go a long way to helping the environment. Commuting alone adds to the mix of smog-creating gases and puts unnecessary pollutants into the air. Help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by taking transit.

Guaranteed Ride

Don’t worry about getting stranded if you have to work late, leave early or have an emergency and are unable to ride The Tide. Sign up for the Guaranteed Ride Program, a service provided by the TRAFFIX division of Hampton Roads Transit. It provides a reliable ride back to your point of origin. Some restrictions may apply.
