Hugh Jackman to Film Real Steel in Michigan

January 22, 2010

The Detroit Free Press reports that DreamWorks will begin filming the Shawn Levy-directed Real Steel in Michigan this June.

"The movie will be filmed primarily in Michigan at locations in metro Detroit and across the state," said the newspaper.

The sci-fi action-adventure, starring Hugh Jackman, is targeted for a November 18, 2011 release.

In the film, based on Richard Matheson's short story, Jackman plays an ex-fighter who becomes a promoter when human boxing is outlawed for being too violent. The new gladiators are 2,000-pound robots with human qualities. The ex-fighter's access to sub-standard robot parts hampers his hopes for glory in Robot Boxing, until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win. The ex-fighter has also discovered he's the father of a 13-year old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top.

Detroit's an ideal setting for this kind of story...that said, Idk if I really dig the story but...Jackman's a great actor, I'll check it out.

From Lansing here and even though the whole premise of this movie sounds lightyears past ridiculous I'm glad to hear it because this state is in desperate need of the Hollywood buck. Or any money...any at all.

I still think The Simpson's episode where Homer pretends to be a robot in similair robot fighting show to impress his son sounds better than this story.

How do we get an on-set job for movies like this coming to Michigan?? It's not like we can go to allllll those film studios they're putting up.

Looking forward to it. I love Hugh Jackman and I like the Twilight Zone episode it came from.

Hey, you either get something obscure like this or another remake or adapation of a popular property. Take your pick.
