Microchip Accreditation Program

AVA Accredited MicrochippingMicrochipping is the AVA's preferred form of permanent identification for animals. It can ensure a quick return of lost pets as well as help with the control of lost, stray and feral animals.

In some jurisdictions microchipping of dogs and cats is compulsory by law.

The Microchip Accreditation Program was established to ensure clients the best quality of care when microchipping their pet.

The AVA believes that veterinarians are the best people to implant microchips due to their knowledge of sterility, anatomy and pain relief required for pets. The accountability of registered veterinarians also fosters accuracy, confidentiality and expertise in record keeping.

Where implantation needs accompanying certification of identification, this must be performed by a registered veterinarian for universal recognition and acceptance.

The AVA has developed policies and procedures for proper implantation and registration of microchip centres.
