Jay-Z Makes 9/11 Answer The Call Concert Official

Posted on August 31, 2009 at 01:02 PM

UPDATE: Get ticket info here!

Monday morning was a little more chaotic than usual at the Madison Square Garden/Penn Station complex in New York today as JAY-Z and a host of government luminaries held a press conference to officially announce Answer The Call, a concert being held on September 11 to benefit the New York Police and Fire Widows and Childrens' Benefit Fund.

The event was hosted by former Def Jam exec and hip-hop visionary, philanthropist and overachiever Kevin Liles, who introduced a series of speakers that included New York Governor David Patterson, FDNY Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, Manhattan borough President Scott Stringer, as well as Mike Baire, president of Madison Square Garden Media. Each spoke for a few minutes, relating memories of 9/11, recalling the courage of those first responders, and in the case of Commissioner Scoppetta, noting that while his own musical tastes might skew closer to Sinatra than Carter, his kids have assured him that he'll enjoy JAY-Z's show.

So: the countdown to the 9pm, September 11th show live from Madison Square Garden begins NOW. The broadcast will be commercial free. And the question on everyone's mind: will there be special guests? JAY-Z says to expect them, but as for further info, he "doesn't want to give too much away..."

A few photos from this morning's press conference below. And much more JAY-Z here.

Noel Gallagher Quits Oasis

Posted on August 28, 2009 at 07:16 PM

It's happened before—Noel Gallagher storming off of a tour, fed up with the antics of brother Liam. But could this be the real deal? Here is the statement that appears on both Oasis's official site and their MySpace:

A STATEMENT FROM NOEL

28 August 2009

"It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.

"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."

Could this be it? "Sing a sad song..."

Nine Inch Nails Tweeting Away Tickets

Posted on August 28, 2009 at 02:24 PM

Nine Inch Nails are about a week into their Wave Goodbye tour, in which the seminal inudtrial rockers are waving goodbye (Trent says) to the touring machine. They may be back, but not on a big scale.

The four shows that took place this week at New York clubs were by all reports spectacular, featuring a full performance of The Downward Spiral one night, and appearances by Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy at two others.

So you'd like to go, right? Well, if you're in Chicago, you might be interested in this tweet that the NIN twitter sent out a few minutes after 1p Central:

We have three pairs of tickets to give away for tonight's show in Chicago. Leo will be around the city this afternoon. More details shortly.

Follow, people, follow! And you just might make it into the Aragon Ballroom tonight.

Madonna And Lil Wayne Collabo A-Comin'

Posted on August 27, 2009 at 07:25 AM

When you're as big as Madonna, you can collabo with anyone you want. Same with Lil Wayne. So if they can both collabo with anyone, why would they get each other? Actually, that doesn't make sense. Moving on, the new Madonna/Lil Wayne jam is called "Revolver" and will appear on Madonna's upcoming hits compilation Celebration in the classic, new-track-on-a-greatest-hits-album position at the end of the first CD.

The track order is non-chronological, which makes for some awesome sequencing: "Dress You Up" kicks off CD2, "Into The Groove," "Like A Prayer," and "Ray Of Light" combine for a killer 1-2-3 punch, and the underrated "Cherish" is the last of the vintage songs before the set's second new song, "Celebration," closes the collection in the classic, new-track-on-a-greatest-hits-album position at the end of the second CD.

Celll-a-brate good times, COME ON! Actually, that's Kool & The Gang, not Madonna. Anyway, click through for the full tracklisting.

Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump Arrested, Sugar

Posted on August 27, 2009 at 06:45 AM

It's been a banner year for celebrity legal trouble on four wheels. February's Chris Brown/Rihanna brouhaha (for which Brown was sentenced this week) took place in a car. Now, a member of Fall Out Boy has joined the club, and it may not be who you think.

It was mentioned on yesterday's Daily Noise, but it bears repeating here: Patrick Stump, say it ain't so! According to the AP, the Fall Out Boy frontman was arrested late Tuesday evening in Los Angeles after being pulled over for still-unspecified reasons. Once the coppers ran Stump's deets they found a two year-old arrest warrant issued to Stump for driving with an expired license. Stump was released several hours later after posting a $15,000 bail. Arrest warrants: they're to be expected when one ignores a misdemeanor driving-without-a-license hearing, like Stump did in 2007.

Hopefully for Stump, he's allowed to leave the country; Fall Out Boy are scheduled to play the Reading Festival in England on Friday.

Bob Dylan To Provide Some Direction Home?

Posted on August 26, 2009 at 09:45 AM

Will you soon have GPS directions growled to you by a musical legend?

We've all been there: driving around lost, like a complete unknown, no direction home. Those seeking shelter from the storm, however, may soon have a new ally: Bob Dylan. Who's behind this story? Bob Dylan.

Of course, that's if you believe Dylan, a noted joker long known to be more funny than his public persona lets on. Dylan revealed the possible side gig on the latest—road map-themed—edition of his weekly radio show. How might a Dylan-led GPS direct you? Dylan himself gave a preview:

"Left at the next street. No, right. You know what? Just go straight. I probably shouldn’t do it because whichever way I go, I always end up at one place — on Lonely Avenue."

Talk about your poetic GPS systems.
