Carrie Underwood's love song to Vegas tourism

May 6, 2008 | 11:42 am

It is hard to believe that the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority did not pay to make Carrie Underwood's latest video, "Last Name."  It's shot all over Vegas from MGM to downtown's Fremont Street. The song and video tell of one wild night in Vegas that begins at MGM's Tabu lounge, throws in some gambling, and ends with a late-night wedding performed by an Elvis impersonator. The LVCVA slogan: "What happens here..." is even quoted in the lyrics.

Ryan Seacrest to Host in Vegas?

February 8, 2006 |  1:13 pm
Ryanseacrest2_itvykhnc Another "American Idol" star may be getting involved in Vegas. Norm's column on Sunday reported a sighting of Idol host Ryan Seacrest having dinner with W. executives. (W., of course, will be the new casino, hotel, condo megathing set to be built in the Harmon corridor.) This  adds fuel to a rumor that Seacrest is being wooed by the Edge Group, the company opening the W Hotel and Residences here, who see Seacrest taking on some kind of an entertainment director role. His responsibilities could include a lounge showroom where Seacrest would be able to introduce new and familiar faces.

Will American Idol Stars Join Forces on the Strip?

If Simon Cowell has his wish and christens the next Vegas headliner it will be interesting to see which casino lines up to host. Few realize that American Idol judge Paula Abdul has been very involved in the entertainment programming at the Silverton. Mike Weatherford has noted the remarkable extent of Abdul's role at that casino:
Abdul is involved in the whole "master plan" for the casino expansion, specifically a new indoor nightclub and concert hall, an outdoor pool and "beach" venue and a 27th-floor nightclub.
So, will Simon Cowell work with his fellow judge and end his Vegas talent search on a stage at the Silverton? Or, is he instead setting up shop to compete with Abdul and give us a chance to see if naughty or nice makes for better judgement?
