A teeth whitening procedure can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars if you have it done in a dentists office. Home tooth whiteners are expensive as well, and it’s pretty hard to know which ones work and which ones don’t. Here are some pros and cons of the different types of teeth whitening products so that you can have a little help when deciding which kind to choose.
It’s also a good idea to try and get a free sample kit if possible. This way, you can try a product out and make sure it works for you before you commit to buying a whole kit. By trying a few different samples, you can decide for yourself which ones you like before you buy the whole bleaching kit. Since everyone’s teeth are different and have different levels of sensitivity, you can make sure the product will actually work with your teeth and bleach them to the level of whitening you want, without irritating your teeth or gums.
Trays:
Many tooth whitening products include a set of trays that you place on your teeth for a set amount of time. Before placing on your teeth, you put a little dot of the bleaching product on the tray – one dot for each tooth. You then wear the trays for the recommended time. Then you rinse the trays and brush your teeth. One of the drawbacks of trays is that they require a little more effort because you have to clean them after each use. You also have to apply the bleach to the tray first, which takes an extra minute or two. For some people, they can also irritate the gum area since the bleaching gel can seep up and out of the tray if too much is applied. Other than that, they can be a good option for tooth whitening.
Pens and Brushes:
Some of the newer kits come with a brush or a pen. Some people prefer to use a pen or brush because they allow for more precise whitening and can alleviate gum irritation. If other products tend to bother your gums, you will probably like using a pen better than strips or trays. You can try out various whitening products for free to see if they works best for you.
Strips:
Strips are adhesive pieces of plastic that are applied to your teeth and left in place for a given amount of time (usually 30 minutes or so). The main complaint that some people have strips is that they can become gooey and sticky and can slip off your teeth before the time is up. Most of the newer products have improved strips that stay in place better than the original ones.
