Hell’s Kitchen Lives up to Its Name just ask Monteray

Hell’s Kitchen is not for the faint-hearted. Chef Ramsey is profane, rude and mean, and that’s on a good day, but today his sous chef’s decided to take a page out of his book. On the men’s team the sous chef went toe to toe with the black contestant from Philly, Monteray. He cursed at him, told him to shut up and basically berated him, but so what. All of these contestants have seen the show prior to participating so they know they are walking into a lion’s den. So I have no sympathy for any of them. This has nothing to do with race, gender or anything, but can you cook. So if it gets too hot for anybody they need to get out of the kitchen.

Remember the Brady Bunch, Mission Impossible and I Spy…then you can relate to this

Do you remember this: 30 days hath September, April, June and November. All the rest have 31 excepting Februaryalone  it has 28 so fine until leap year gives it 29. This was a poem I was taught as a child with the purpose of teaching us how many days were in a month. I bring this up because my daughter asked me today how many days did May have? I asked her did she know the poem and she looked at me as if I were nuts. I recited it and she said she had never heard it. This prompted me to ask her to name the 5 great lakes. She started and I asked were they taught to remember the lakes by thinking of the word HOMES? We were taught H-Uron, O-ntario, M-ichigan, E-rie, S-uperior. In a word HOMES. No she had never been taught the lakes this way . Yes, I know we are dealing with the I-PAD generation, but some of these basic learning techiniques still have value, but I guess they like cursive writing are becoming exstinct.

Glenn Beck compares Norway Camp to Hitler Youth Camp

MSNBC Source: “There was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like the Hitler Youth, or whatever,” Beck said on his radio show Monday, which is broadcast on more than 400 stations. “I mean, who does a camp for kids that’s all about politics? Disturbing,” Beck said about the Labour Party youth camp on theislandofUtoyawhere 68 people, mostly teens, were killed. Later in the same show, Beck described Anders Behring Breivik — the Norwegian suspect charged with last week’s double massacres — as a “madman.” Former press secretary to Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, Torbjorn Eriksen, swiftly condemned theU.S.broadcaster for his remarks about the Utoya camp. “Young political activists have gathered at Utoya for over 60 years to learn about and be part of democracy, the very opposite of what the Hitler Youth was about,” Eriksen told the Daily Telegraph. “Glenn Beck’s comments are ignorant, incorrect and extremely hurtful.” What are we exporting? It is disturbing that the Shooter said that he had read or been exposed to a number of hatemongering readings that had their origin in our country. One has to ask why would Beck make this comparision? Tell me what you think.

Black-on-Black Crime: The Problem Starts and Stops at Home

GUEST POST

Black-on-black crime is tragic in more ways than one. The terror felt by a black crime victim is stressful and degrading enough. Knowing that the violence came from the hands of a black thug only adds insult to injury. Such crimes occur almost daily in black communities across our nation. Criminals rove our neighborhoods like wild dogs, causing women and children to barricade themselves inside their homes. Contrary to popular belief, racism is not the main cause of black-on-black crime. I grew up ten miles outsideEast Saint Louis,Illinoisduring the late 50s and early 60s. It was a proud middle-class city where white and black professionals lived as neighbors. By the end of the 70s, all the white residents had moved out. So did many black families. Those who could not afford to move saw their city quickly overtaken by thugs, criminals, dope addicts, prostitutes and gangs – most of whom were black. Residents soon found themselves trapped in a hell that caused them to fear even going out to the store. This wasn’t fear caused by the Ku Klux Klan, but by blacks preying on their own. Between 1970 and 1990, I occasionally visited relatives in theEast St. Louisarea. I was saddened to see that even the churches there had become targets of crime and disrespect by black hoodlums. Two of my childhood friends are ministers in the area and they often tell me of the awful crimes perpetrated by blacks thugs in that city. Racism didn’t cause the evil attitudes, broken families, high rates of out-of-wedlock births, child abuse and abortions that plague black communities. The cause is a lack of moral foundation, ignorance, apathy, selfishness and greed. Yet, time and time again, we hear our so-called leaders repeating the age-old lie that these black problems stem from white racism. While some problems do have racist origins, black-on-black crime isn’t one of these problems. What can be done to fight the scourge of black-on-black crime? The first realization we must face is that it is our problem. Others can help, but we must do the heavy lifting. Furthermore, we must not blame our problems on whites. We must change our attitudes towards law enforcement to start working with these agencies and not against them. We must not glorify drug use and paint violent criminals as “heroes of the ‘hood” just because they are black. The same black “heroes” praised in rap songs would not hesitate to murder black seniors to get a few dollars for drugs. Naturally, there are serious risks involved because the criminal element won’t go away without a fight. Case in point: on February 18, 2003, NPR’s “All Things Considered” highlighted the brutal crime that occurred inBaltimorein October of 2002. When Angela Maria Dawson tried to do something about drug crime in her neighborhood, black thugs set her home on fire in the middle of the night. Dawson and her family perished in the flames. No doubt black predators are ruthless and heartless because killing women and children means nothing to them. It will take courage and a willingness to suffer retaliation if we are to meet this evil head on. But what is the alternative? This task will take time, hard work, involve risks and require a persistent grassroots movement but I believe it can be done. It starts in the home. These bad actors didn’t just appear out of nowhere. They’re somebody’s children. It is also of great importance that black men do not abdicate this task. Crying and wailing every time a black child is murdered by a black thug avails us nothing. We must act. I strongly believe that, one day, we will be held accountable for the actions or lack thereof for protecting our children, wives, mothers, sisters and seniors. No excuses will be accepted.

Tavis Smiley and Cornel West Embark on the Anti-Obama Tour

Tavis Smiley and Cornel West will launch a 15 city “Poverty Tour” or more aptly named by Fox News An “Anti-Obama Tour”. Smiley is the self anointed accoutablity prince and West  the master of big words have both been critical of the president from the jump. Smiley’s contempt for the president cost him his job on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. West is still smarting over not receiving inauguration tickets from the president. So both men have an ax to grind. Smiley said “It’s not just about the president,” . “Having said this, it would be nice to hear the president say the word ‘poor.’ To say the word ‘poverty.’ We get conversations about the middle class. Well, the new poor are the former middle class. But we can’t get this president or any leaders to say the words ‘poor’ or ‘poverty,’ much less do anything about it.” So the fact is the black community has been devestated by the recession and the White House has not exactly been proactive, but the real issue here is Smiley and West are carrying personal baggage  into this fight and I hardly think the poor will benefit from their tour.

Mom face 3 years in jail after jaywalking accident kills her 4 year old son…is this fair?

Raquel Nelson appeared on the Today Show this morning and shared her story. Nelson was returning home with her three children and she jaywalked after getting off the bus. Her 4 year old son was struck by a van and killed. The driver of the van was sentenced to 6 months, but she faces the possibility of 3 years in prison. She was convicted of 2nd degree vehicular homicide. She said it was getting dark and she was taking a shortcut in an effort to get her children home. She also said  that no member of the jury had ever ridden a bus. Why is this important? Who tends to ride public transportation and specificallye buses more? Was this jury actually a group of her peers? Read the link and tell me what you think. http://www.parentdish.com/2011/07/25/mom-faces-3-years-in-jail-after-son-4-killed-while-jaywalking/

Speaker Boehner Won’t Return the President’s Call…this is some foolishness

As I watched the president discuss the speaker’s decision to stop participating in the debt discussions I felt both sad and mad. Sad, that the leader of this country said “I’ve been left on the alter several times now”, and mad that he has to continue have these discussions with what can only be described as an immovable force. Over the past few days I have seen top level Democrats cry, whine and complain about all the concessions the president was willing to make, but that simply was not enough. The Republicans are not bending on taxes they simply are not going to give in no matter what. I am not going to say Obama comes out of this smelling like a rose because he does not. Both sides look bad. These people are all government workers and come hell or high water they will get their paychecks. Maybe if their pay was in jeopardy they might really have a sense of urgency and possibly a sense of empathy.

Florida DMV Sells personal Information for $63M …will other states follow suit?

In 2010 Florida Department of Motor Vehicles sold the personal information of license holders for $63 million dollars. The information was sold to data collection firms. The information included names, addresses and birthdates. The state said no social security numbers were sold. People can opt out of this but the DMV said they might miss out on getting recall updates and other important information. Tell me what you think.

What made Rahm Emanuel walk out of an interview?

Rahm Emanuel the newly elected mayor of Chicago walked out of an interview when a reporter questioned him about where his children would be attending school. Emanuel has decided to send his children to private school instead of public school. He says this is his decision as a father. The reporter claimed the children were public figures and this decison would be an issue. Emanuel left the interview. What do you think. Is this a family decision or a public issue?
