The most powerful woman in tech made a fortune manufacturing phones and gadgets sold under other companies' brands; now she is getting even richer by marketing them under her own HTC. Sales at the Taipei company, run by her and her husband Wenchi Chen, nearly doubled last year to $9.6 billion and net profit rose by three-quarters to $1.4 billion. Moving beyond hardware, the firm bought Saffron Digital of London, a mobile content provider, in February and said it would invest in U.S.-based gaming company OnLive. Wang, a daughter of the late Taiwan billionaire Y.C. Wang, was a member of a group that bought 26% of Hong Kong's biggest television production company, TVB, in January. more »
