The most prominent building on Jacksonville's skyline will not be nameless for long.

The Modis signage came down in March, leaving the top of second-tallest building in Jacksonville empty.

Management for the 37-floor building behind the Jacksonville Landing said the skyscraper will soon be called the Wells Fargo Center, after the banking company that bought Wachovia last year.

Wells Fargo is expected sign a lease next week and move 375 employees into the building beginning in November. The new name should be hoisted into place by the end of the summer.

The skyscraper was completed in 1974 and surpassed NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building as Florida's tallest building -- a title it held until 1981. It remained the tallest building in Jacksonville until 1990.

Originally known as the Independent Life Building, the tower had carried the name of the Modis Co. for the past decade.
