Amodio was born in Brazil but was raised in France. He started skating at age four when long-time coach Bernard Glesser discovered him in a public skating session. Amodio had to stop skating for 18 months when he was 12 years old as he was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease (knee pain and edema). Amodio switched coaches in summer 2010.
