Scientists ‘interested’ in learning more about Technetium-99 releases from Fukushima

Scientists Will Track Fukushima Radiation To Study Ocean Currents, Forbes.com, May. 17 2011 at 8:34 am EDT:

[...] Scientists still don’t know the full content of the release that reached the ocean. The Japanese regularly test the seawater only for Iodine-131 and for two isotopes of cesium.

They have not tested for other radioactive isotopes that interest oceanographers, such as tritium and strontium, which was detected in Hawaii. Tokyo Electric Power Company conducted one seawater test for plutonium, which had been found in soil around the plant, and reported it non-detectable.

Scientists from the International Atomic Energy Agency are also interested in learning more about releases of Technetium-99, which has a half life of 210,000 years, and Iodine-129, which has a half life of 14 million years. The Japanese have released no information about those isotopes. [...]

      Hey… Mr. Scientists, with your “government grant money,” lets start at the bottom and work our way up. Lets take “one single particle” of a radioactive isotope emitting deadly energy and place it in a mouse. PLEASE explain to the mouse that it will not experience a “health risk” in America.

      Mr. Scientists, with a half life of thousands of years, PLEASE explain to Mr. mouse just HOW this one particles deadly energy was diluted because it took a bath in the Pacific ocean!

      Then you have the audacity to tell me that […] properties of radioactive isotopes can help them understand how those waters behave […] WE know how water behaves and, we are finding out just how you behave.

      These people are sick.

    Plutonium, strontium, and tritium will be important to start tracking. We have a few 100,000 years to get around to doing this monitoring if we cannot get to it this year. The challenging game of “catch-up to the current situation” is the new potential criticality unto itself.

    Try not to drop your beakers….morons.
    The DWH situated near the Biloxi dome..not interesting enough?
    Do a thesis ..get a grant ..whores.

      experience is a good teacher also, but as far as these non-scientists and academics go, this can only get worse. that’s what happens when you worship the green god and don’t really live in the realworld. interesting.

    Scientists should have been interested in learning more about these isotopes before a nuclear power plant was allowed to be built in an earthquake zone. The so-called scientists will be interested now, if there’s grant money available, even if these grants have a non-disclosure rule like the BP grants. TEPCO and GE probably have a few extra dollars that can buy off “scientists” (or as Heart of the Rose accurately called them…).

    If they do their testing with govt money and it shows “too much” contamination, we are highly unlikely to see the results for the next 20 years or so.

    I say we start our own independent scientific studies.

    Let’s take a group of scientists (preferrably from the pro-nuclear industry)and have them ingest the established EPA “safe” levels of strontium and cesium.

    Put them all in a controlled environment, and then we’ll closely monitor their health week after week, month after month, year after year.

    Let’s see how their beloved ‘linear no-threshold model’ and ‘hormesis’ theories pan out with internal low-dose contamination.
