SYNDICATED COLUMNISTS
 
The true test of a leader is how well he or she responds in times of crisis. By that measure, Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and the City Council have failed.  
 
The abrupt closure of Fremont solar-tech manufacturer Solyndra is terrible for the 1,100 workers who lost their jobs and for the Bay Area and California, which need a thriving green-tech economy to climb out of this economic morass.  
 
Government must protect the health and safety of its citizens. In our California congressional delegation, we have examples of some leaders who are putting our public lands and community health first and others who stand ready to trade it away.
