THQ showed gamers at Gamescom 2011 and PAX Prime 2011 a first look at the new horror sequel, Metro: Last Light. The first-person shooter will immerse players in the haunting, desolate ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, one of the most richly detailed, and beautifully realised gaming worlds of modern times. Developer 4A Games will deliver a terrifying, atmospheric single-player adventure that fuses thrilling combat with exploration and survival horror to create a unique, memorable experience.

Gears of War 3 left a huge presence on the show floor at PAX Prime this weekend, and though not everyone may be crazy about some of its features (like Microsoft's proposed and unnecessary Season Pass), it'll no doubt be a big seller for the game community.  Likewise, several peripheral makers are ready to back up Gears of War in full force, particularly Calibur, who showed off its upcoming Vault armor for Xbox 360 at the Triton booth.

Nintendo wasn't afraid to show off its latest stuff at PAX Prime this past weekend in Seattle.  Among the highlights of their booth were several playable kiosks for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, a game that'll be thrashing its way to Nintendo Wii this November.  If you're a fan and can't wait to get the game, you might want to put down your money on the collector's edition coming your way.  It's got some cool goodies.

If you were roaming around the fourth floor of PAX Prime all weekend, then you might have missed out on what treasures were being harbored on the sixth floor, in a small indie pavilion of sorts.  Several companies showed off things here, including Mega 64 and its barrage of silly (but must-have) products, NoS with a fresh supply of energy drinks, and several card game makers.  In the back, several indie game companies had their products on hand as well -- including 24 Carat Games' unique music/rhythm game Retro/Grade.

WB Games has a lot going on at PAX, including a Batman-themed console giveaway and plenty of hands-on with its upcoming games, including Batman: Arkham City.  However, we shouldn't forget about its other Dark Knight-oriented product, Gotham City Impostors.  At a private function last night over at GameWorks, the company showed off its latest build, and introduced us to a fun new mode that players should have no problem getting into.

PAX Prime may be over but the news keeps pouring in.  Gears of War 3 took a huge amount of attention at the show, attracting a huge line of players waiting to check out the multiplayer.  Along with that, Microsoft announced at the show that it would be introducing a new program for the game that would save them money on its upcoming downloadable content packs -- a "season pass", similar to what Rockstar Games did for L.A. Noire.

It's been a tough competition for indie game developers in the Dream Build Play program, Microsoft's devoted contest where dev teams go head-to-head with their creations, with the winners receiving some cash for their efforts.  A lot of the games were on display this year at PAX, and there were many inspired favorites to choose from.  In the end, though, it came down to Swing Swing Submarine and its brilliant Blocks That Matter.
