Sega's upcoming Sonic Generations looks to return the series back to its old-school form, after so many missteps including Sonic Unleashed.  It mixes old-school 2-D stages (with 3-D design) alongside 3-D action stages, creating a seamless platforming experience in the process.  We've already seen the Green Hill Zone in action, but earlier today, Gameswell unveiled two new stages for the game, which will be quite familiar to Sonic fans.

Actress Hayley Atwell may not be wielding Captain America’s shield in director Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger, but she’s certainly stealing the superhero’s thunder. Atwell plays Peggy Carter in the World War II-era origin story of Stan Lee’s Marvel comic book, opposite Chris Evans. And gamers can get more of her in Sega’s Captain America: Super Soldier video game. Atwell goes virtual for the first time in the cross-platform game. The English actress, who’s the biggest gamer in the cast, talks about how she’s been hooked on video games since the early days of Sega’s Mega Drive and Game Gear in this exclusive interview.

These days, not as many actors get involved in video game movies. But Sega has had great luck casting its last two Marvel video games, Thor and now Captain America -- both of which are playable in 3D like the  movies. Even with the lead actor, Chris Evans, not being interested in games at all, they were able to get the real Captain America to provide the lines in the new Captain America: Super Soldier game. Evans was able to talk about his video game work before descending on San Diego Comic-Con to give fans an exclusive first look at the movie.

With Captain America: The First Avenger in movie theaters around the world today and Sega’s tie-in, Captain America: Super Soldier, available for all platforms; the synergy for Marvel Entertainment’s newest mainstream property is perfect. In fact, Captain America has taken over Comic-Con 2011 to fan boys' delight. But all signs are pointing to Captain America being the last Marvel movie that will be licensed out to an external company like Sega. The Walt Disney Company purchased Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion and now its game division, Disney Interactive Media Group (DIMG), is heading up all video game projects.

With Comic-Con fast approaching (it practically starts in like three days), there's a lot of stuff happening in San Diego, including panels, game-related events (we're making a stop at the Sega Arcade for sure) and other special stuff, and we'll be attending as much as we can while trying to recover the morning after.  But if for some reason you can't get into the big show, relax -- there's something else happening that could easily soothe your nerdy appetite -- and that something is Nerd HQ 2011.

Sega of America is giving comic book fans the chance to play upcoming fall and spring releases in the pop-up arcade at the Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego. The game publisher is setting up its own Sega Arcade space near the convention center and will have a number of its highly anticipated titles playable for all, including Sonic Generations, Rise of Nightmares, Captain America: Super Soldier and an all new unannounced game. Comic-Con marks the first time the public can get their hands on many of these games before their releases later this year.

With Sonic celebrating his 20th anniversary this year, it's hard not to reminisce about some of our favorite Sonic the Hedgehog experiences over the years. Sonic Generations will be featuring several levels throughout Sonic's travels going all the way back to the very first game on the Sega Genesis. This game got me thinking about some of my favorite past levels in the franchise. So, I decided to make a list of my top 5 classic Sonic levels of all time, going all the way up to Sonic & Knuckles. These levels have been chosen for the levels themselves, and not the fights with Dr. Robotnik at the end.
