Opry.com’s Guide To What’s New in the Country This week.
Barefoot Blue Jean Night
Jake Owen released his third studio album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, this week featuring the title track, plus, “Alone With You,” “The One That Got Away,” “Keepin’ It Country,” and more.
theboot.com said, “Jake Owen is a walking testament to the power of positive thinking. Take the smash summer singalong, ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night.’ He was considering that song for his next album right as his girlfriend was breaking up with him. So Jake gave the song a shot. Fast-forward months later: the song is now his biggest-selling single ever.”
After the release, Jake tweeted:
jakeowen Ok… First 10 peeps to respond that bought my record.. I’ll follow you.. You can send me your #. I wanna call you and see what songs u dig
But he didn’t stop at ten:
jakeowen So awesome to catch up with folks who bought my record. I Valle about 50 of y’all. Left some voicemails, talked to most. Thanks y’all :)
Every spare minute he has, Jake is calling his twitter fans to thank them for purchasing the new album and to get their feedback on which songs they like.
GAC says of the album, “crisply produced, Barefoot Blue Jean Night is tied together with radio-ready choruses, hook-laden electric guitar melodies and songs about women, life’s lessons and a few good times. Jake sings with attention-grabbing imagery and a touch of nostalgia.”
Keith Urban welcomed Jake this summer to join the U.S. leg of Keith’s Get Closer 2011 World Tour. In an interview with CMT.com, Jake said of the experience: “It’s been awesome. [Keith]‘s such a good guy. I mean, what you see is what you get. The guy is really truly a humble, laid-back guy that’s unbelievably talented on his guitar and singing and songwriting. The most valuable thing I’ve learned from him is how to stay positive and just to keep a positive attitude and always look at the bright side of things.
Reggae’s Gone Country
Grand Ole Opry Member Larry Gatlin lends his vocals to Reggae’s Gone Country, released this week. Produced by John Rich and Dean Fraser, the compilation features classic country hits covered by Jamaica’s top musicians and vocalists, plus vocals by Gatlin on one track.
“Reggae’s Gone Country is taking some of Jamaican’s favorite classic American country songs and putting their beats and whole instrumentation around it while still having that root of country…It is this crazy cool idea,” says John Rich.
Just some of the featured tracks include, “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “Feels So Right,” “Straight Tequila Night,” and more.
ABCnews.com said of the album, “Flowers On The Wall” by L.U.S.T. is a perfect blend of country and raggae, with misfit lyrics that could’ve originated in either genre.”
“I’ve worked with the best, I’ve played with the best,” Larry Gatlin said. But he never tried reggae. Until now.
Though he has visited Jamaica twice, Larry admits his knowledge of reggae is limited. He teamed up with reggae artist Romain Virgo on “California,” one of the twelve tracks on the album, to create a fresh take on “All The Gold In California,” a massive hit for The Gatlin Brothers in 1979.
“Everybody knows about Jimmy Cliff and the Marley family, but I’m not really familiar with the music. To find out that a young reggae singer from Jamaica would like the music of an old grandpa from Texas is amazing.”
