Weather advisory issued (08/09/05)

NB 1274

Sept. 5, 2008

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following weather advisory is issued by the Emergency Measures Organization on Friday, Sept. 5:

Tropical Storm Hanna will bring wind and heavy rain to Atlantic Canada on Sunday and Monday. Significant rainfall is possible in the southern half of New Brunswick.

Rainfall of up to 60 mm (3 inches) is probable. Environment Canada is not forecasting a storm surge for this event; however, coastal areas will experience high surf.

Localized flooding, rapid water level increases in streams and rivers and power outages are possible. Areas of poor drainage may sustain standing water and flooding of basements.

People living or working along watercourses or the southern and eastern coastlines of the province should take steps to protect their property and remain on alert until the storm has passed.

People should be particularly cautious in coastal areas because of high winds, heavy rain and dangerous surf. This advisory will be of particular concern to those who have been affected by similar storms in the past.
