Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Release Date Now Official

By Sindre Lia, Tuesday 22 March 2011

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 release date has been officially announced along with specs and pricing details.

The capacitive tablet market has been predicted to see massive growth throughout the year, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 will arrive just in time for the party to kick off for real. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has received an exact release date - June 8 - while the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be released "early this summer".

Measuring just 8.6mm and weighing in at 595g and 470g, respectively, the Galaxy Tab devices will be the thinnest capacitive tablets on the market this summer. Both feature Samsung's new TouchWIZ 4 user interface, which has been implemented on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform first seen on the Motorola XOOM. Samsung says TouchWIZ 4 improves multi-tasking and enhances user interaction and navigation.

A Live Panel for instance lets users customize a variety of content on the home screen, including photos, favorite Web sites and social networking feeds. A Mini Apps Tray, on the other hand, is an application tray of commonly used features such as task managers, calendar, music player, memo and calculator which can be launched at any time.

Both the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are pre-loaded with Readers Hub and Music Hub, giving users instant access to more than 2.2 million books, 2,000 newspapers in 49 languages, 2,300 magazines in 22 languages, and 13 million songs.

Shared specs include HSPA+ network speeds of up to 21 Mbps as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Wireless-N connectivity. Also, both tablets sport a 1GHz dual-core processor, 3-megapixel rear-facing camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera with HD video recording. The Galaxy Tab devices will include Samsung's enterprise mobility solutions developed in collaboration with Cisco, Sybase, SAP and Citrix.
